In adults, it is prescribed to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a condition characterized by blood clots typically forming in the legs, and pulmonary embolism (PE), which involves blood clots in the lungs. Additionally, it serves to prevent the recurrence of DVT and PE following initial treatment.
  • This medication is also indicated for preventing strokes or serious blood clots in adults with atrial fibrillation, a heart condition marked by irregular heartbeats that elevate the risk of clot formation and subsequent strokes, particularly when not associated with heart valve disease. It functions by inhibiting Factor Xa, a crucial component of the blood clotting process, thereby reducing the likelihood of clot formation.
