AB Phylline tablet is primarily used for the management of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory conditions associated with reversible airway obstruction and bronchospasm. It helps relax the airway muscles, reduce mucus thickness, and improve airflow, thereby easing symptoms such as wheezing, breathlessness, and cough.
AB Phylline tablet usually contains acebrophylline, which has both bronchodilator and mucolytic actions. It inhibits phosphodiesterase and increases cyclic AMP levels in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to muscle relaxation and airway dilation. It also modifies mucus secretion and reduces mucus viscosity, facilitating easier clearance of secretions from the respiratory tract.
AB Phylline tablet is not intended for the rapid relief of acute asthma attacks or sudden episodes of breathlessness. It is used as a maintenance or controller medicine to reduce the frequency and severity of symptoms over time. For acute attacks, fast‑acting inhaled bronchodilators prescribed by a doctor should be used. Patients should follow their personalized asthma action plan for emergencies.
The exact dose and schedule of AB Phylline tablet must be determined by your doctor based on your clinical condition and other factors. It is generally taken by mouth with water, preferably after food to reduce stomach discomfort. Take it at the same times each day, exactly as prescribed. Do not crush or chew the tablet unless your doctor or pharmacist specifically advises that the formulation can be altered.
If you miss a dose of AB Phylline tablet, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects such as nausea, palpitations, or restlessness.
Common side effects of AB Phylline tablet may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, heartburn, headache, dizziness, restlessness, and difficulty sleeping. Some individuals may notice palpitations or a feeling of rapid heartbeat. These effects are often mild and transient, but if they persist, worsen, or become troublesome, you should contact your doctor for advice.
AB Phylline tablet should generally be avoided in individuals with a known allergy to acebrophylline, theophylline, ambroxol, or any component of the formulation. It should be used with particular caution, or may be contraindicated, in patients with severe heart rhythm disorders, uncontrolled hypertension, active peptic ulcer disease, severe liver or kidney impairment, seizure disorders, or a history of severe hypersensitivity reactions. Your doctor will assess the risks and benefits before prescribing it.
AB Phylline tablet is often prescribed along with inhaled bronchodilators, inhaled corticosteroids, or other controller medicines as part of a comprehensive asthma or COPD regimen. However, it can interact with certain drugs, including other xanthine derivatives, some antibiotics, anti‑seizure medicines, and cardiac drugs. You should inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking so that potential interactions can be assessed and doses adjusted if necessary.
The safety of AB Phylline tablet during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established. It should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the mother and baby, as determined by the treating physician. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, discuss the need for this medicine and possible alternatives with your doctor before starting treatment.
While taking AB Phylline tablet, follow your doctor’s instructions carefully, avoid self‑adjusting the dose, and attend scheduled follow‑up visits. Inform your doctor about any history of liver, kidney, heart, or stomach disease, seizures, or drug allergies. Limit excessive caffeine intake, as it may enhance certain side effects such as restlessness or palpitations. Do not stop the medicine abruptly without medical advice, and seek prompt care if you experience severe side effects such as chest pain, severe vomiting, seizures, or signs of an allergic reaction.
Alcohol consumption while taking AB Phylline tablet is generally not recommended, as it may increase the risk of stomach irritation, dizziness, and impaired judgment. Alcohol can also worsen underlying respiratory or liver conditions. If you consume alcohol, discuss the quantity and frequency with your doctor so that individualized advice can be provided.
