Common side effects of Ambrodil Plus Syrup may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn, bloating, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, skin rash, itching, increased sweating, muscle cramps, tremor, and increased heart rate. Less common side effects can include difficulty breathing, chest pain, anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, and dry mouth. In rare cases, serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) may occur, characterized by swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, discontinue use and consult your doctor immediately.

Use with cautionPseudoephedrine can increase heart rate and blood pressure by constricting blood vessels, which may be problematic in children with underlying heart disease or hypertension.

Ambrodil Plus Syrup is generally used to relieve symptoms of cough and cold in children, particularly when there is thick mucus, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing. It combines a mucolytic (ambroxol) to thin mucus, an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine) to reduce allergy-related symptoms, and a decongestant (pseudoephedrine) to relieve nasal blockage. It is meant for short-term symptomatic relief and does not treat the underlying infection itself.
The exact dosage for a child cannot be safely provided without a full clinical assessment and the specific product strength. Dosage depends on the child’s age, body weight, medical history, and the concentration of each active ingredient per millilitre in the syrup. Only a pediatrician or the product’s approved prescribing information can determine the correct dose. Caregivers should never guess the dose or use adult dosing as a reference.
Ambrodil Plus Syrup contains multiple active ingredients, including an antihistamine and a decongestant, which can cause significant side effects in children if misused. It should not be started in a child without medical advice. A doctor should first confirm that the child’s symptoms are suitable for this medicine and then prescribe an appropriate dose and duration.
If a pediatrician has prescribed Ambrodil Plus Syrup, it should be given exactly as directed, using a proper measuring device such as an oral syringe or calibrated measuring cup. The dose should be administered at the recommended intervals, and caregivers should avoid exceeding the total daily amount. The syrup can usually be given with or without food, but following the doctor’s specific instructions and the product leaflet is essential.
Possible side effects in children may include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, stomach discomfort, headache, and mild increase in heart rate. Some children may experience irritability, difficulty sleeping, or restlessness due to the decongestant component. Rare but serious reactions include allergic rash, swelling of the face or tongue, severe breathing difficulty, or marked palpitations. Any severe or unexpected symptom requires immediate medical attention.
Safety and dosing in infants or very young children are particularly sensitive because their organs and nervous system are still developing. Many combination cough and cold syrups are not recommended below a certain age, which is specified in the product’s approved labeling. Ambrodil Plus Syrup should not be given to infants or young children unless a pediatrician has clearly indicated it and provided an exact dose and duration.
Combining Ambrodil Plus Syrup with other cough, cold, or allergy medicines can be risky because several products may contain similar ingredients such as antihistamines or decongestants. This can lead to accidental overdose and increased side effects. A child should not receive additional cough or cold preparations, including over-the-counter syrups, tablets, or drops, without explicit approval from the treating doctor.
If a dose is missed and it is still some time before the next scheduled dose, give the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with the regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose, as this increases the risk of side effects. If multiple doses are missed or you are unsure, consult the child’s doctor for guidance.
You should stop the medicine and seek medical help if the child develops difficulty breathing, wheezing, chest tightness, severe or persistent vomiting, rash, swelling of the face or tongue, extreme drowsiness, confusion, or very fast heartbeat. You should also contact the doctor if the cough lasts more than a few days, worsens, or is accompanied by high fever, chest pain, or blood in sputum, as these may indicate a more serious condition.
Use in children with asthma or chronic lung disease requires particular caution. While the mucolytic component may help loosen mucus, the antihistamine and decongestant components can sometimes affect breathing or interact with other asthma medications. Only a pediatrician or pediatric pulmonologist who knows the child’s full medical history should decide whether Ambrodil Plus Syrup is appropriate and, if so, at what dose and for how long.
