How AMBRODIL S SYRUP 100 ML Works

• Ambroxol changes the make-up of mucus in the airway so it becomes thinner and less sticky. It also increases the movement of the cilia, the fine hair-like structures lining the airway that sweep mucus upward, so the loosened mucus is carried out more readily.
• Salbutamol acts on beta-2 receptors in the muscle wrapped around the airways. Stimulating those receptors relaxes the muscle, the airway widens and air moves through more freely, which eases wheezing and breathlessness.

Most of the effects patients notice come from the salbutamol and appear soon after a dose. A fine tremor in the hands, a pounding or racing heartbeat and a restless feeling are the usual ones, and they tend to ease as the body adjusts. Breathing that tightens rather than eases after a dose needs urgent medical attention, as does chest pain, fainting or a marked irregular heartbeat. Severe skin reactions involving blistering, peeling or sores in the mouth have been reported with ambroxol and need the medicine stopped and a doctor seen the same day. Muscle weakness or cramps during higher-dose treatment can point to a fall in blood potassium.

• If you miss a dose of AMBRODIL S SYRUP 100 ML, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

• Store the bottle at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat, and keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Replace the cap firmly after each dose.

• Shake the bottle well before every dose
• Measure with the cup, dropper or syringe supplied, never a kitchen spoon
• Drink fluids through the day, as this helps loosen mucus alongside the medicine
• Tell the prescriber about any heart condition, high blood pressure, thyroid disorder, diabetes or seizure disorder before starting
• Mention any inhaler already in use, since it may contain salbutamol as well
• Stop the syrup and seek help the same day if breathing tightens after a dose or the skin blisters or peels
• Do not share the syrup between children, even where the symptoms look the same
