Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Heart and QT Interval
Use with caution / specialist adviceHydroxyzine has been associated with prolongation of the QT interval on the electrocardiogram in susceptible individuals, which can increase the risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias such as torsades de pointes.
ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines, which means it is an anti-allergy medicine. It is used to treat various allergic skin conditions (e.g., eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash). ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S effectively reduces symptoms such as swelling, itching and redness associated with such conditions. It also helps relieve excessive anxiety or worry in people who are supposed to undergo a surgery or have recently undergone a surgery. It calms the brain and makes such people feel better.
ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S is safe if used in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Take it exactly as directed and do not skip any dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully and let your doctor know if any of the side effects bother you.
ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S works by decreasing the inflammation caused by allergies. It reduces inflammation by blocking the release of a natural chemical in our body, called histamine, that causes allergic symptoms such as swelling, redness and pain.
If you forget a dose of ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose in the prescribed time. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one as this may increase the chances of developing side effects.
ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S is effective if used in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking it even if you see improvement in your condition. If you stop using ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S too early, the symptoms may return or worsen.
No, do not stop taking ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S without consulting your doctor even if you are feeling better. Your symptoms may improve before the condition is completely cured. Therefore, for better and complete treatment, it is advised to continue your treatment for the prescribed duration.
Before starting treatment with ATARAX 25MG TABLET 15'S, tell your doctor if you have any other health problems, like kidney, heart or liver-related issues. This is because certain medical conditions may affect your treatment and you may even need dose modifications. Let your doctor know about all the other medicines you are taking because they may affect, or be affected by, this medicine. If you have had an allergic reaction to any similar medicine earlier, tell your doctor before starting your treatment. Inform your doctor if you are planning a baby, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Atarax 25 is a prescription medicine that contains hydroxyzine hydrochloride 25 mg as its active ingredient. Hydroxyzine is a first-generation antihistamine with additional sedative and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties. It is used mainly to relieve itching and other symptoms of allergic conditions, and may also be prescribed for short-term management of anxiety and as a sedative premedication in certain clinical situations.
Atarax 25 is commonly used for the symptomatic relief of pruritus (itching) associated with allergic conditions such as urticaria (hives), contact dermatitis, and other histamine-mediated skin reactions. It may also be used as an adjunct in the short-term management of anxiety and tension, and sometimes as a sedative premedication before surgery or procedures, according to a doctor’s assessment. The exact indication should be clearly specified by the prescribing clinician.
Atarax 25 works primarily by blocking H1 histamine receptors, which reduces the effects of histamine released during allergic reactions, thereby decreasing itching, redness, and swelling. In addition, hydroxyzine crosses the blood–brain barrier and exerts central nervous system effects, including sedation and anxiolysis. It also has anticholinergic activity, which contributes to some of its side effects such as dry mouth and blurred vision.
You should not decide your own dose of Atarax 25. The appropriate regimen must be determined by a healthcare professional based on your age, body weight, kidney and liver function, the condition being treated, and other medicines you are taking. Self-adjusting the dose or frequency can increase the risk of excessive sedation, confusion, heart rhythm disturbances, and other adverse effects. Always follow the exact instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist.
Common side effects of Atarax 25 include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, fatigue, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, constipation, or stomach discomfort. Because of its anticholinergic effects, some people may experience blurred vision or difficulty urinating. These reactions are often mild to moderate and may lessen with continued use, but if they are severe, persistent, or concerning, you should contact your healthcare provider.
Atarax 25 is not classified as a benzodiazepine or an opioid and is not typically associated with classic drug dependence or withdrawal syndromes. However, because it has sedative and anxiolytic properties, some individuals may become psychologically reliant on it for sleep or anxiety relief if used inappropriately or for prolonged periods. For this reason, it is generally recommended for short-term or intermittent use, and any long-term treatment plan should be regularly reviewed by a healthcare professional.
Atarax 25 should be used with particular caution in older adults. This population is more sensitive to sedative and anticholinergic effects, which can increase the risk of confusion, falls, urinary retention, constipation, and worsening of glaucoma or prostate problems. Lower doses and close monitoring are often required, and in many cases, alternative medicines with a more favorable safety profile in the elderly may be preferred. The decision to use Atarax 25 in an older person should be individualized by the prescriber.
Atarax 25 commonly causes drowsiness, slowed reaction time, and impaired concentration, especially after starting treatment or after dose changes. Because of this, you should not drive, operate machinery, or perform tasks that require full alertness until you know how the medicine affects you and your doctor confirms it is safe. If you continue to feel sleepy or dizzy, you should avoid such activities altogether while taking the medicine.
Alcohol should be avoided while taking Atarax 25. Both alcohol and hydroxyzine depress the central nervous system, and using them together can significantly increase drowsiness, dizziness, impaired coordination, and the risk of accidents. In some individuals, combined use may also increase the risk of breathing difficulties or other serious adverse effects. If you consume alcohol regularly, discuss this with your doctor before starting Atarax 25.
If you miss a dose of Atarax 25, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of excessive sedation and other side effects. If you are unsure what to do, seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
Atarax 25 should generally be avoided in individuals with a known allergy to hydroxyzine, cetirizine, levocetirizine, or any component of the formulation. It is usually not recommended in patients with a history of significant heart rhythm disorders, congenital long QT syndrome, or in those taking certain medicines that can prolong the QT interval, unless a specialist has carefully assessed the risks and benefits. Caution or avoidance is also advised in severe liver or kidney impairment, narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, and in pregnancy and breastfeeding, unless specifically directed by a doctor.
