With once-weekly dosing, the risk can be slightly higher in the first few days after an injection.Common: injection-site reactions (redness, swelling, itching), skin changes at the site with repeated injections in one spot (lumps or dents — lipodystrophy), rash or itching, swelling (oedema), and weight gain.Serious (seek medical attention): severe low blood sugar (confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness) — a medical emergency; low blood potassium; and severe allergic reactions (widespread rash, swelling of the face/lips, difficulty breathing).
Inject it under the skin of your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day. Rotate the injection site each time to avoid skin lumps. Your doctor or diabetes nurse will train you on using the FlexTouch pen before you start.
Yes. Attach a new, sterile pen needle before each injection and remove it immediately after — never store the pen with the needle attached. Reusing needles causes pain and skin damage, risks infection, and can let air in or block the needle, leading to an inaccurate dose. Pen needles are sold separately. Never share your pen with anyone, even with a new needle.
Take it as soon as you remember, then continue on your regular weekly schedule — but there must be at least a few days between doses. Follow your doctor's specific instructions on the missed-dose window, and never take two doses close together.
Signs include sweating, shakiness, hunger, a pounding heart, dizziness, or confusion. Treat it immediately with a fast-acting sugar (glucose tablets, juice), then eat a snack or meal. Always carry a glucose source, monitor your blood sugar as advised, and tell your doctor about any frequent or severe episodes. Do not drink alcohol, as it can cause unpredictable and severe low blood sugar.
Keep unused pens in the refrigerator (do not freeze, and keep away from the cooling element); never use a pen that has been frozen. Once in use or kept at room temperature, use it within the period stated in the pack insert, protected from light and heat. Never draw insulin out of the pen with a syringe, never mix or dilute it with another insulin, and always check the label before injecting to be sure you are using AWIQLI.
