How BANDY SYRUP 10 ML Works

• Albendazole binds to beta-tubulin, a protein the worm uses to build the internal structures that carry nutrients through its cells. Those structures fail to form.
• The worm can then no longer take up glucose, its main source of energy. Its energy stores run down, it loses the ability to hold on to the gut wall, and it dies. The dead worms pass out of the body in the stool.

Most reported effects are mild and short-lived. Stomach discomfort, nausea and headache are the ones patients notice most, and they usually settle without treatment. Albendazole can raise liver enzyme levels. Yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain or unusual tiredness should be reported without waiting for the next appointment. A rash, swelling of the face or throat or difficulty breathing suggests an allergic reaction and needs urgent medical care.

• Store the bottle at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children and pets. Replace the cap firmly after use and check the expiry date on the carton.

• Shake the bottle and measure the dose with the cup or syringe supplied
• Give the syrup with milk or with food containing some fat, which improves absorption
• Complete the course, including any repeat dose the prescriber has scheduled
• Wash hands with soap after using the toilet and before meals
• Keep nails short and clean, since eggs collect under them
• Wash fruit and vegetables well and use safe drinking water
• Report yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or persistent vomiting without waiting
• Tell the prescriber about liver disease or any past reaction to albendazole or mebendazole

• Albendazole is absorbed better when taken with food containing some fat. Giving the syrup with milk or with a meal increases how much of the medicine reaches the bloodstream.
• Grapefruit and grapefruit juice raise albendazole levels in the body and are best avoided during treatment.
