Most side effects are temporary and disappear as your body adapts to the medication. However, consult your doctor if these effects persist or cause concern. Common side effects include reactions at the application site such as burning, irritation, itching, and redness.

Allergy and Sensitivity Precautions
AllergiesDo not use Betadine solution if you are allergic to iodine, povidone-iodine, or any of the excipients listed on the product label.
BETADINE 10% SOLUTION 100 ML can be used as an antiseptic to treat or prevent infections in wounds such as ulcers, small burns or cuts, and other minor injuries. However, take special care if you are applying BETADINE 10% SOLUTION 100 ML on open large wounds or where the skin is broken like burns. The reason being there may be a risk of excessive absorption of iodine in the blood which may increase to toxic levels.
BETADINE 10% SOLUTION 100 ML has a natural golden brown color which stains the area where you have applied it. It does not however, permanently stain your skin and fingernails. The stain can be easily removed from your clothes with soap and water.
BETADINE 10% SOLUTION 100 ML is used in the treatment and prevention of infection in wounds including cuts, small areas of burn, ulcers and minor injuries. Do not use this medicine on deep wounds and clean surgical wounds.
Clean the affected area and apply a small amount of the medicine to it. You can then cover it with a sterile bandage. You can apply this medicine 1 to 3 times daily. However, do not use it for longer than 1 week.
Using BETADINE 10% SOLUTION 100 ML over a large area or for a long time may sometimes cause problems with your thyroid. Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction include weight loss, increased appetite, sweating, lack of energy, and weight gain. If you notice such symptoms, contact your doctor who may advise you to stop using BETADINE 10% SOLUTION 100 ML.
Betadine solution 100ml is an antiseptic solution, usually containing povidone-iodine, used for cleaning and disinfecting minor cuts, wounds, abrasions, and for pre- and post-operative skin preparation as directed by a healthcare professional. It helps reduce the risk of infection by killing or inhibiting a wide range of microorganisms on the skin.
The price of Betadine solution 100ml varies by country, pharmacy, brand variant, and taxes. To find the current price, check with local pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, or reputable online medical stores in your region. You can compare prices across different sellers, but always ensure you are purchasing from a trusted and licensed source.
Use of povidone-iodine solutions like Betadine during pregnancy should be discussed with a doctor. Iodine can be absorbed through the skin, especially when used over large areas or for prolonged periods, and may potentially affect maternal or fetal thyroid function. Occasional, small-area use may be considered in some cases, but it should only be used under medical advice during pregnancy.
If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Betadine solution, particularly on large skin areas or for long durations. Iodine can be absorbed and may pass into breast milk, potentially affecting the infant’s thyroid function. If your doctor advises its use, avoid applying it directly on or near the nipples, and ensure any treated skin is thoroughly cleaned before breastfeeding.
Betadine solution is used externally on the skin and is not primarily processed by the liver in the same way as oral medicines. However, in people with severe liver disease or multiple health issues, any medication or antiseptic should be used cautiously. If you have significant liver problems, discuss with your doctor before using Betadine solution extensively or over large body areas.
In patients with kidney disease, especially severe or end-stage kidney disease, iodine absorption from povidone-iodine solutions used over large areas or for prolonged periods may be of concern. While limited, small-area external use is often considered acceptable, it should still be discussed with a healthcare professional. Avoid prolonged or extensive application without medical supervision if you have kidney impairment.
Betadine solution is a topical antiseptic and does not typically affect alertness, coordination, or vision when used as directed on the skin. It is not expected to impair your ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience any unexpected side effects such as dizziness or visual disturbance, which are uncommon, avoid driving and consult a healthcare professional.
There is no direct interaction between topical Betadine solution and alcohol consumption when the solution is used on the skin as directed. However, excessive alcohol intake can impair wound healing and overall health. If you have significant medical conditions or are on other medications, ask your doctor about alcohol use in general, but Betadine solution itself does not usually restrict moderate alcohol consumption.
If you have a known allergy to iodine, povidone-iodine, or any component of Betadine solution, you should not use it. Signs of an allergic reaction may include redness, itching, rash, swelling, or blistering at the application site, and rarely more severe reactions. Stop using the product immediately if you suspect an allergy and seek medical advice. Your doctor or pharmacist can recommend alternative antiseptics that do not contain iodine.
Use Betadine solution externally on intact or minor broken skin as directed on the product label or by your healthcare professional. Clean the area gently, apply a small amount of solution to cover the affected area, and allow it to dry. Avoid contact with eyes, inside the mouth, deep wounds, or large burned areas unless specifically instructed by a doctor. Do not swallow the solution. If irritation, persistent redness, or worsening of the wound occurs, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
Because Betadine solution contains iodine, repeated use over large skin areas or for prolonged periods may lead to increased iodine absorption, which can affect thyroid function in susceptible individuals, such as those with pre-existing thyroid disease, pregnant women, newborns, and infants. If you fall into any of these groups or require frequent or extensive use, consult your doctor to assess the risks and consider alternative antiseptics if needed.
