Like all medicines, Betadine Antiseptic Solution can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. **Common Side Effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):** * Skin irritation * Local allergic reactions such as contact dermatitis with symptoms such as redness, small blisters, and itching. **Uncommon Side Effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):** * Hypersensitivity * Contact dermatitis with symptoms such as papules (small, raised bumps) or vesicles (small blisters). **Rare Side Effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):** * Allergic reaction with symptoms such as urticaria (hives), angioedema (severe swelling of the skin, usually around the mouth, tongue, eyes or throat) or, in severe cases, anaphylactic reaction (a sudden, life-threatening allergic reaction). **Very Rare Side Effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):** * Hyperthyroidism in patients with pre-existing thyroid disease (overactivity of the thyroid gland, which can cause increased appetite, weight loss, sweating, and rapid heartbeat). **Side Effects with Unknown Frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):** * Hypothyroidism (underactivity of the thyroid gland, which can cause fatigue, weight gain, constipation, and dry skin). * Electrolyte imbalance * Metabolic acidosis (too much acid in the body fluids). * Acute kidney injury * Pneumonitis (inflammation of the lungs) **If you experience any of the following side effects, stop using Betadine Antiseptic Solution and seek immediate medical attention:** * Difficulty breathing or swallowing * Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat * Severe skin rash with blistering * Wheezing This is not a complete list of all possible side effects.
