How BETNOVATE C CREAM 30 GM Works

• Betamethasone valerate reduces inflammation through several routes. It lowers the number of mast cells that release histamine, slows the arrival of eosinophils and other immune cells, cuts the production of inflammatory messengers, and blocks the breakdown of arachidonic acid into inflammatory substances. Redness, swelling and itching settle as a result.
• Clioquinol acts against bacteria and fungi on the skin surface. GSK notes that its exact mechanism is not known but is probably linked to its iodine content. Together, the steroid controls the rash while clioquinol deals with the infection sitting on it.

Itching and a burning or painful feeling at the application site are the most commonly reported effects. Allergic contact dermatitis, redness, rash and hives are reported in fewer than 1 in 10,000 people, and they can look like the original rash getting worse. Long use, use over large areas, use under a covering or use on thin skin can cause skin thinning, stretch marks, visible small blood vessels, colour changes and extra hair growth. Enough steroid can be absorbed to affect the whole body, especially in children, causing suppressed cortisol production, Cushing-like features, raised blood sugar and slowed growth in children. Clioquinol carries a theoretical risk of nerve toxicity with prolonged use or use under a covering. Blurred vision or other visual changes should be reported to a doctor.

• Take it as soon as you remember: If you remember within a relatively short time after missing the dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is close to the time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule.
• Do not double the dose: Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Taking more than the prescribed amount can increase the risk of side effects or complications.

• Store the tube at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Do not freeze. Keep the cap closed and the tube out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date on the pack.

• Apply a thin layer only, just enough to cover the area
• Do not use it on ringworm, candida or other primary infections unless a doctor prescribes it for that
• Do not use it on acne, rosacea or as a skin-lightening cream
• Avoid long use on the face and in skin folds
• See the doctor if the infection spreads or there is no improvement within two to four weeks
• Protect clothing, as the cream can stain
• Keep away from flames, since fabric soaked with the cream burns easily

• Betnovate C Cream is applied to the skin, and no food interactions are expected.
