Brio B Eye Drops is a prescription ophthalmic solution containing brimonidine tartrate 0.2% w/v and brinzolamide 1% w/v. It is generally used to lower raised intraocular pressure in conditions such as open‑angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. By reducing the pressure inside the eye, it helps decrease the risk of optic nerve damage and progressive vision loss. It is intended for use only under the supervision of an eye specialist.
Brio B Eye Drops works through two complementary mechanisms. Brimonidine is an alpha‑2 adrenergic agonist that reduces aqueous humour production and may increase its outflow through the uveoscleral pathway. Brinzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that decreases aqueous humour formation by blocking the carbonic anhydrase enzyme in the ciliary body. Together, these actions lower intraocular pressure and help protect the optic nerve from pressure‑related damage.
Use Brio B Eye Drops exactly as prescribed by your ophthalmologist. Do not change the frequency or duration of use on your own. Before applying, wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and instil the prescribed number of drops without touching the dropper tip to your eye or any surface. Close your eye gently and apply light pressure with a finger to the inner corner of the eye for about 1–2 minutes to reduce systemic absorption. If you use other eye drops, keep at least a 5–10 minute interval between different products, unless your doctor advises otherwise.
In many cases, contact lenses should be removed before instilling Brio B Eye Drops, especially if the formulation contains preservatives that can be absorbed by soft lenses or irritate the eye. You should usually wait a recommended interval before reinserting lenses, as advised by your eye care professional. Always follow the specific instructions provided with your product and consult your ophthalmologist or optometrist if you are unsure about contact lens use with this medicine.
Common side effects may include mild and transient eye irritation, burning or stinging sensation after instillation, eye redness, blurred vision for a short time, dry eyes, or a feeling of grittiness or foreign body sensation. Some patients may experience headache, drowsiness, or fatigue. These effects are often mild and temporary. If side effects are persistent, troublesome, or worsening, you should contact your doctor for assessment and possible adjustment of therapy.
Serious side effects are uncommon but can occur. Seek urgent medical attention if you notice signs of a severe allergic reaction such as marked eye swelling, intense redness, severe itching, rash around the eyes, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue. Other concerning symptoms include severe or sudden vision changes, intense eye pain, pronounced dizziness, fainting, or signs of systemic acidosis such as unusual tiredness, rapid breathing, or irregular heartbeat. Your doctor will decide whether treatment should be stopped or changed.
Use in children, particularly very young children, should be carefully evaluated by a paediatric ophthalmologist, as brimonidine‑containing products have been associated with central nervous system depression in infants and small children. In elderly patients, Brio B Eye Drops can be used, but they may be more sensitive to systemic side effects such as low blood pressure, dizziness, or fatigue. Dose, frequency, and monitoring requirements should be individualized by the treating physician for both age groups.
If you miss a dose, instil it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra drops to make up for a missed dose, as this may increase the risk of side effects without providing additional benefit. If you frequently forget doses, discuss strategies with your doctor or pharmacist to help you remember your medication.
You should not stop using Brio B Eye Drops without consulting your ophthalmologist, even if your eye pressure readings improve or your eyes feel normal. Glaucoma and ocular hypertension are often chronic conditions that require long‑term or lifelong management. Stopping treatment abruptly may cause intraocular pressure to rise again, potentially leading to optic nerve damage. Any change in therapy, including dose reduction or discontinuation, must be guided by your eye specialist based on regular examinations.
Brio B Eye Drops can interact with certain systemic and topical medications. Caution is usually advised when it is used together with oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, as combined use may increase the risk of systemic side effects such as electrolyte imbalance or metabolic acidosis. Brimonidine may enhance the effects of antihypertensive agents, cardiac glycosides, or central nervous system depressants, potentially leading to low blood pressure, slow heart rate, or increased drowsiness. It may also interact with some antidepressants that affect noradrenergic transmission. Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking before starting Brio B Eye Drops.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, a history of sulfonamide allergy, severe cardiovascular disease, low blood pressure, depression, or breathing problems before starting Brio B Eye Drops. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye, fingers, or any surface to prevent contamination. Do not use the drops if the solution has changed colour, appears cloudy, or contains particles. If you develop new or worsening eye symptoms, severe irritation, or signs of infection such as discharge or significant pain, contact your ophthalmologist promptly. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and store it as directed on the label.
