How CITRALKA SYRUP 200 ML Works

• Disodium hydrogen citrate is converted in the body to bicarbonate, which is excreted by the kidneys and raises the pH of the urine. Uric acid becomes far more soluble as urine pH rises, roughly twenty times more soluble as the pH moves from acidic to neutral or mildly alkaline.
• By keeping urine less acidic, Citralka reduces the tendency of uric acid to crystallise and form stones, and it can help existing uric acid crystals redissolve over time. It works entirely within the urinary tract and does not change how much uric acid the body makes.

Stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea can occur, particularly if the syrup is taken on an empty stomach. A frequent urge to urinate and tiredness have also been reported. Persistent or severe stomach upset, or any unusual symptom, should be reported to a doctor.

• Store the bottle in its original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and out of the reach of children and pets. Keep it at the temperature stated on the current Pfizer pack. Do not use the syrup after the expiry date printed on the carton.

• Shake the bottle well and measure each dose with the cup or spoon supplied
• Drink plenty of fluids through the day to support the effect of this syrup
• Take it with food if it causes stomach upset
• Continue the course as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, unless a doctor advises otherwise
• Tell the doctor about heart, kidney or liver disease, or diabetes, before starting
• Report persistent stomach upset or any unusual symptom to a doctor

• Citralka can be taken with or without food, and mixing it into a glass of water or juice is a common way to take it.
• Adequate fluid intake supports its effect on urine pH, so drinking plenty of water through the day is encouraged.
