Clingen vaginal tablet is primarily used to treat mixed vaginal infections caused by both bacteria and fungi, especially when bacterial vaginosis and vulvovaginal candidiasis coexist. It helps relieve symptoms such as abnormal vaginal discharge, itching, burning, odour, and local discomfort when these are due to susceptible organisms. The combination of clindamycin and clotrimazole provides broad coverage against common bacterial and fungal pathogens in the vagina.
Clingen contains clindamycin, an antibiotic that stops the growth of certain bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis, and clotrimazole, an antifungal that damages the fungal cell membrane, leading to fungal death. Together, they act locally in the vagina to reduce the load of pathogenic bacteria and Candida species, thereby improving symptoms and restoring a healthier vaginal environment when used as prescribed.
Clingen vaginal tablet is designed exclusively for intravaginal use and must not be swallowed. It should be inserted deep into the vagina, usually at bedtime, as directed by a healthcare professional and the product leaflet. Swallowing the tablet can lead to inappropriate exposure to the active ingredients and may increase the risk of systemic side effects.
No. Vaginal discharge can have many causes, including bacterial infections, fungal infections, sexually transmitted infections, hormonal changes, or non-infectious irritation. Clingen is intended for mixed bacterial and fungal infections susceptible to clindamycin and clotrimazole. Using it without proper diagnosis may mask symptoms, delay correct treatment, or contribute to antimicrobial resistance. A medical evaluation, and where appropriate laboratory testing, is recommended before starting therapy.
Clingen is not a comprehensive treatment for sexually transmitted infections. While clindamycin may have activity against some bacteria, Clingen vaginal tablet is not indicated as sole therapy for STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, or trichomoniasis. If an STI is suspected, systemic evaluation and guideline-based treatment are required. Clingen may be used as part of management for associated vaginitis only if advised by a clinician.
Many patients notice some relief of itching, burning, or discharge within a few days of starting Clingen, but the exact time to improvement varies depending on the severity of infection and individual response. It is important to complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve early, unless a doctor advises otherwise. If symptoms persist, worsen, or recur shortly after treatment, medical reassessment is necessary.
Use during menstruation is generally not preferred because menstrual flow can reduce the contact time of the medicine with the vaginal mucosa and may decrease effectiveness. In many cases, treatment is started or resumed after the menstrual period. However, recommendations can vary based on the specific product and clinical situation, so you should follow your doctor’s advice and the instructions in the package leaflet.
Commonly reported local side effects include vaginal burning, irritation, itching, increased discharge, or discomfort. Some women may experience abdominal cramps or mild spotting. Systemic side effects are uncommon because absorption from the vagina is limited, but clindamycin can rarely be associated with gastrointestinal disturbances or, very rarely, serious conditions such as antibiotic-associated colitis. Any severe pain, heavy bleeding, rash, breathing difficulty, or persistent diarrhoea should prompt immediate medical attention.
Use of Clingen in pregnancy should be based on a careful risk–benefit assessment by a healthcare professional. Intravaginal clindamycin and clotrimazole have been used in pregnancy, but safety depends on gestational age, infection severity, and individual factors. Self-medication is not recommended. Pregnant women should consult their obstetrician or gynaecologist before starting Clingen or any intravaginal therapy.
Yes. The base and excipients in Clingen vaginal tablet can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms, potentially reducing their effectiveness and increasing the risk of contraceptive failure or infection transmission. During treatment and for a short period after completion, alternative or additional non-latex barrier methods or abstinence are usually advised. Discuss appropriate contraception and protection with your healthcare provider.
If you forget to insert a dose, use it as soon as you remember on the same day, unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with the regular schedule. Do not insert extra tablets to make up for a missed dose, as this may increase the risk of local irritation or side effects. Inform your doctor if you miss multiple doses, as treatment duration may need adjustment.
Clingen should generally be avoided in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to clindamycin, lincomycin, clotrimazole, or any excipient in the formulation. It should be used with caution or avoided in patients with a history of antibiotic-associated colitis or severe inflammatory bowel disease, unless a specialist advises otherwise. Women with unexplained vaginal bleeding, suspected pelvic inflammatory disease, or severe systemic symptoms should be evaluated before using Clingen.
