How COSCOPIN COUGH LINCTUS 100 ML Works

• Noscapine acts on the cough centre in the brain, raising the threshold needed to trigger a cough. This reduces how often and how strongly the urge to cough occurs, without the marked sedation seen with some other cough suppressants.
• Ammonium chloride has a traditional expectorant action, helping to loosen mucus in the airway. Trisodium citrate acts as an alkalinising agent that can help modify the character of bronchial secretions. The syrup formulation also has a soothing, coating effect on an irritated throat.

Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth and nausea are the most commonly reported effects. Blurred vision, constipation, difficulty passing urine, headache and skin rash or itching are reported less often. Rash with swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, or a sudden drop in blood pressure are signs of a severe allergic reaction and need emergency medical attention. Marked confusion or restlessness should also be reported to a doctor.

• If you miss a dose of COSCOPIN COUGH LINCTUS, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Store the bottle in its original pack, protected from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children and pets. Keep it at the temperature stated on the current Biological E pack. Do not use the linctus after the expiry date printed on the carton.

• Measure each dose with the cup supplied with the pack, not a household spoon
• Take it after a meal if it upsets the stomach
• Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effect of the medicine is known
• Tell the prescriber about pregnancy, chronic respiratory disease, or liver, kidney or heart conditions before starting
• Seek medical evaluation if the cough persists beyond a few days or is accompanied by fever, chest pain or breathing difficulty
• Seek urgent medical help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty or a severe allergic reaction

• Coscopin can be taken with or without food, though taking it after a meal can reduce the chance of stomach upset.
• Alcohol adds to the drowsiness this combination can cause and is best avoided while taking it.
