Common: headache, dizziness or lightheadedness, nausea, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion (stuffy nose), and back or muscle pain. Dapoxetine can also cause drowsiness, dry mouth, and, occasionally, fainting — drinking water and standing up slowly can help. Serious (seek medical attention): a sudden drop in blood pressure causing fainting; chest pain during sex (stop and seek help — do not take nitrates); a painful or prolonged erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism), which is a medical emergency; sudden vision or hearing changes; and, rarely, mood changes or thoughts of self-harm linked to the SSRI component.
Take one tablet with a full glass of water about 1–3 hours before planned sexual activity, on demand — not daily. Do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours. It works only with sexual stimulation. Avoid taking it with a heavy, high-fat meal if possible.
Never take it with nitrate medicines (used for chest pain/angina, such as nitroglycerin) or "poppers" (amyl nitrite) — the combination can cause a dangerous, potentially fatal drop in blood pressure. Also avoid excess alcohol, which increases dizziness and fainting.
Men with significant heart disease, recent heart attack or stroke, very low or uncontrolled blood pressure, severe liver or kidney problems, or a history of fainting should avoid it or use it only under close medical supervision. It is not for use by women or anyone under 18. Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions and medicines, especially other ED drugs, alpha-blockers, and antidepressants.
Dapoxetine can cause dizziness or fainting, especially on standing. If you feel faint, lie down and raise your legs. Take the tablet with water, avoid alcohol, and be cautious about driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
An erection lasting more than 4 hours (priapism) needs urgent medical attention to prevent permanent damage. Seek emergency care immediately if this happens.
