Dermiford ointment is a multi-ingredient topical medicine generally used for short-term treatment of inflammatory skin conditions that are suspected or confirmed to have mixed fungal and bacterial involvement. It is usually prescribed for conditions such as infected eczema, dermatitis with secondary infection, or certain tinea (fungal) infections with marked redness and itching. The exact approved indications can vary by country and product label, so it should be used only as directed by a healthcare professional.
Dermiford typically contains a potent corticosteroid (such as clobetasol propionate) to reduce inflammation, redness, and itching; antifungal agents (such as ketoconazole and/or tolnaftate) to inhibit the growth of susceptible fungi; and antibacterial agents (such as neomycin and clioquinol) to act against certain bacteria and other microbes. By combining these actions, Dermiford can rapidly relieve symptoms and help control mixed infections, but this also increases the need for careful, short-term, and targeted use.
Apply Dermiford only to clean, dry, affected skin as instructed by your prescriber. A thin film is usually sufficient to cover the affected area; do not rub vigorously or apply to large areas unless specifically advised. Wash your hands before and after application, unless your hands are the treated area. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, open wounds, or mucous membranes. Do not cover the area with airtight or occlusive dressings unless your doctor has told you to do so, as this can increase absorption and side effects.
Use of Dermiford on the face, genital area, or skin folds (such as armpits or groin) should be avoided unless a dermatologist or other qualified clinician has specifically recommended it. These areas are more sensitive and absorb topical corticosteroids more readily, increasing the risk of side effects such as skin thinning, stretch marks, or worsening of certain conditions like rosacea or perioral dermatitis. Never self-treat facial rashes or genital symptoms with Dermiford without medical advice.
Dermiford is generally intended for short-term use only. The exact duration should be determined by your healthcare professional based on your diagnosis, severity of symptoms, and response to treatment. Prolonged or repeated courses, especially with a high-potency steroid component, can lead to local and systemic side effects, including skin atrophy, stretch marks, and suppression of the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis. If there is no clear improvement within the timeframe advised by your doctor, you should return for reassessment rather than continuing treatment on your own.
Commonly reported local side effects with combination products like Dermiford include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, redness, or irritation at the application site. With longer or inappropriate use, there may be skin thinning, stretch marks, easy bruising, changes in skin color, acne-like eruptions, or increased hair growth at the treated site. Allergic contact dermatitis to components such as neomycin or clioquinol can also occur. If you notice severe irritation, blistering, spreading redness, or signs of allergy such as swelling or intense itching, stop using the ointment and seek medical advice promptly.
Use of Dermiford in children should be strictly under pediatric or dermatology supervision. Children have a higher surface-area-to-body-weight ratio and more permeable skin, which increases the risk of systemic absorption of potent corticosteroids and antibiotics. This can lead to growth suppression, adrenal suppression, or other systemic effects if used inappropriately or for prolonged periods. Do not apply Dermiford to large areas, under nappies or tight dressings, or for longer than prescribed in children.
If you miss a scheduled application of Dermiford, apply it as soon as you remember, provided it is not almost time for your next application. If it is close to the next scheduled time, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular regimen. Do not apply extra ointment or use it more frequently to make up for a missed application, as this increases the risk of local and systemic side effects without improving efficacy.
You should follow your prescriber’s instructions on when and how to stop Dermiford. For short courses, it may be stopped once the prescribed duration is completed, even if symptoms improve earlier. In some cases, especially after use on sensitive areas or after longer courses, your doctor may advise tapering the frequency of application to reduce the risk of rebound symptoms. Do not continue using Dermiford beyond the recommended period, and consult your clinician if symptoms return after stopping.
Dermiford is applied topically, so systemic drug–drug interactions are less common than with oral medicines. However, using other topical corticosteroids, antifungals, or antibiotics on the same area can increase the risk of irritation, sensitization, or cumulative steroid exposure. Strong cleansers, exfoliants, or alcohol-based products may further irritate treated skin. Inform your healthcare professional about all prescription, over-the-counter, and cosmetic products you are using on the affected area so they can advise on an appropriate regimen.
