Common side effects of DOMPAN Tablet may include headache, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, flatulence, and skin rash. Less common but potentially serious side effects include allergic reactions (such as hives, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing), changes in heart rhythm, muscle stiffness or spasms, seizures, anxiety, depression, breast enlargement or tenderness, and unusual milk production. It's crucial to consult your doctor if you experience any of these or other concerning symptoms.

Dompan tablet is mainly used to treat conditions associated with excess stomach acid and impaired upper gastrointestinal motility. It is commonly prescribed for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acid peptic disorders such as gastritis, and functional dyspepsia presenting with symptoms like heartburn, sour belching, upper abdominal pain, bloating, and a feeling of fullness after meals. Because it contains domperidone, it is also used to relieve nausea and vomiting when these are related to reflux or delayed gastric emptying. The exact indication for use should be determined by a doctor after clinical evaluation.
Dompan tablet combines two active ingredients with complementary actions. Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks the hydrogen–potassium ATPase pump in the stomach lining, thereby markedly reducing gastric acid secretion. This helps heal acid‑related damage and relieves symptoms such as heartburn and acidity. Domperidone is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that enhances gastrointestinal motility and accelerates gastric emptying. It also acts as an antiemetic by blocking dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone outside the blood–brain barrier, helping to control nausea and vomiting. Together, these actions reduce acid exposure in the esophagus and improve digestive comfort.
Long‑term use of Dompan tablet should be approached cautiously and only under close medical supervision. Prolonged use of pantoprazole and other proton pump inhibitors has been associated with potential risks such as vitamin B12 deficiency, magnesium deficiency, increased risk of certain infections (for example, Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea), and, in some studies, an increased risk of bone fractures with high doses or extended duration. Domperidone, particularly at higher doses or in susceptible individuals, may increase the risk of serious heart rhythm disturbances, including QT interval prolongation and ventricular arrhythmias. Therefore, the duration of therapy should be as short as clinically appropriate, and periodic review by a healthcare professional is recommended.
Dompan tablet is a prescription combination intended for specific acid‑related and motility‑related disorders and is not generally recommended for self‑treatment of simple, occasional heartburn. For mild, infrequent acidity, a doctor may suggest lifestyle changes and, if needed, simpler over‑the‑counter options such as antacids or single‑agent acid suppressants for short‑term use. Because Dompan contains domperidone, which has cardiac safety considerations, it should only be used when clearly indicated and under medical guidance. If you experience frequent or severe heartburn, you should consult a healthcare professional rather than self‑medicate.
Dompan tablet is generally taken before meals so that pantoprazole can effectively suppress meal‑stimulated acid secretion and domperidone can enhance gastric emptying and reduce post‑meal symptoms. Many clinicians prefer administration before breakfast, and in some cases before the main meals of the day, depending on the treatment plan. However, the exact timing, frequency, and duration must be specified by the prescribing doctor based on your condition and overall regimen. You should follow the instructions on your prescription label and not change the schedule without medical advice.
Commonly reported side effects of Dompan tablet may include headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, dry mouth, and nausea. Some people may experience mild skin rash or itching. Pantoprazole can occasionally cause gastrointestinal disturbances and, rarely, more serious effects such as low magnesium levels with prolonged use. Domperidone may cause breast tenderness, galactorrhea (milk secretion), menstrual irregularities, or decreased libido due to its effect on prolactin levels. Most side effects are mild and transient, but if you develop palpitations, fainting, severe abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, jaundice, or any other worrying symptom, you should seek medical attention promptly.
Dompan tablet should generally be avoided in individuals with known hypersensitivity to pantoprazole, domperidone, or any of the excipients in the formulation. It is contraindicated in patients with prolactin‑releasing pituitary tumors (prolactinomas), moderate to severe liver impairment for domperidone, known prolongation of the QT interval, significant underlying cardiac disease such as congestive heart failure, or in those taking certain medicines that can markedly prolong the QT interval or inhibit domperidone metabolism. It should also not be used in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction, or perforation where stimulation of motility could be harmful. A doctor will assess your medical history and current medications before prescribing Dompan.
Use of Dompan tablet during pregnancy requires careful risk–benefit assessment by a healthcare professional. Pantoprazole has limited but generally reassuring human data; however, it is still recommended to use it only if clearly needed. Domperidone crosses the placenta to a limited extent, and safety data in pregnancy are not robust. Therefore, Dompan is usually avoided in pregnancy unless the potential benefit to the mother clearly outweighs any possible risk to the fetus and no safer alternative is suitable. Pregnant women should not start or continue Dompan without explicit advice from their obstetrician or treating physician.
Both pantoprazole and domperidone can pass into breast milk in small amounts. Pantoprazole exposure to the infant via breast milk is generally low, but data are limited. Domperidone is sometimes used off‑label to increase milk supply because it raises prolactin levels, but safety concerns, particularly regarding maternal cardiac risk, have led to regulatory cautions. When Dompan is considered for a breastfeeding mother, the doctor must evaluate the necessity of treatment, the dose and duration, and the health status of both mother and infant. In some cases, an alternative therapy with a better‑established safety profile in lactation may be preferred. Breastfeeding women should not use Dompan without medical supervision.
Yes, Dompan tablet can interact with several other medicines. Domperidone is metabolized mainly by the CYP3A4 enzyme, so strong inhibitors of this enzyme, such as certain azole antifungals (for example, ketoconazole, itraconazole), macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin, erythromycin), some HIV protease inhibitors, and certain antidepressants, can increase domperidone levels and raise the risk of serious heart rhythm disturbances. Concomitant use with other drugs that prolong the QT interval further increases this risk. Pantoprazole, by reducing stomach acidity, can affect the absorption of medicines whose bioavailability depends on gastric pH, such as some antifungals and antiretrovirals. It may also influence the effect of drugs like warfarin or methotrexate in certain situations. You should inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, over‑the‑counter products, and herbal supplements you are taking before starting Dompan.
If you miss a scheduled dose of Dompan tablet, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next planned dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects without providing additional benefit. If you frequently forget doses, consider setting reminders and discuss with your doctor whether any adjustment to your regimen is needed. If you are unsure how to manage a missed dose in your specific situation, seek advice from your prescriber or pharmacist.
