Contraindicated in known allergyDo not use Eflora cream if you are known to be allergic to eflornithine or any of the excipients listed in the product information.
No, EFLORA 13.9% CREAM 15 GM is not recommended to be used in children and adolescents who are below 18 years of age. The safety and effectiveness of this medication has not been established in pediatric age group. Consult your doctor before starting the medication.
EFLORA 13.9% CREAM 15 GM is used for the treatment of excessive facial hair in females. It should be carefully used and should not be applied on hair over other parts of the body like scalp. It is important to consult your doctor before using the medicine and follow the instructions carefully.
The use of EFLORA 13.9% CREAM 15 GM will depend on the response of the patient to the medicine. It is to be applied twice daily with a gap of at least eight hours between the two applications. The effect of the medicine and improvement in the condition can be noticed within eight weeks of starting treatment. If no beneficial effects are noticed within four months of starting the medication, then inform your prescribing physician who will discontinue the medicine and suggest alternate treatment option.
EFLORA 13.9% CREAM 15 GM cream should be applied as a thin layer on the clean and dry, affected areas of the face. The cream should be rubbed properly into the skin such that no residual cream should remain after rub-in. Hands should be washed properly before and after the application of the medicine. Avoid cleaning or washing the face for the next four hours after application of the medicine. Consult your doctor for exact instructions for its use.
Usually, it does not cause any burning or stinging sensation while its application, but it can be there if it is applied to a damaged or broken skin. EFLORA 13.9% CREAM 15 GM should be applied on the intact skin only. Avoid contact of this medication with eyes or mucous membranes of nose or mouth. You should be cautious while applying this medicine if skin irritation or rashes develop, immediately contact the prescribing physician.
Eflora cream is used to reduce unwanted facial hair growth in women, particularly on the upper lip, chin, and other areas of the face. It slows the rate of new hair growth but does not remove existing hair. It is usually prescribed for facial hirsutism, which may be related to hormonal conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or other causes of increased androgen levels.
Eflora cream contains eflornithine, which works by inhibiting an enzyme in hair follicles that is necessary for hair growth. By blocking this enzyme, the cream slows down the growth of new hair. Over time, hair may grow back more slowly, become finer, and appear less noticeable. The effect is gradual and requires consistent use as directed by a healthcare professional.
Eflora cream does not work immediately. Many users begin to notice improvement in facial hair growth after about 4 to 8 weeks of regular use, though this can vary from person to person. Maximum benefit may take several months. If no improvement is seen after a few months of correct use, you should consult your doctor to reassess the treatment.
Safety data on the use of Eflora cream during pregnancy are limited. Because it is a medicine that can be absorbed through the skin in small amounts, it should only be used in pregnancy if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor after weighing potential benefits and risks. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, discuss this with your healthcare provider before starting or continuing Eflora cream.
There is limited information on the use of Eflora cream during breastfeeding. Small amounts of the medicine may be absorbed through the skin, but it is not known whether it passes into breast milk. Use during breastfeeding should be based on a doctor’s advice, considering the benefits and potential risks. The cream should not be applied to the breast area or anywhere that may come into direct contact with the infant’s skin or mouth.
Eflora cream is applied to the skin and has minimal systemic absorption compared with oral medicines, so the impact on the liver or kidneys is expected to be low. However, in people with severe liver or kidney impairment, caution is advisable. Such patients should use Eflora cream only under medical supervision, and any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional promptly.
Eflora cream acts locally on the skin and is not known to affect alertness, coordination, or vision. It is therefore not expected to impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. If you experience unexpected side effects such as severe skin irritation that distracts you or affects your comfort, use your judgment and consult your doctor.
There is no well-documented interaction between alcohol consumption and topical Eflora cream when used as directed. Because the medicine is applied to the skin and systemic absorption is low, alcohol is not expected to significantly affect its action. However, excessive alcohol use can worsen some skin conditions and overall health, so moderation is advisable. Always follow your doctor’s general health recommendations.
If you have a known allergy to eflornithine or any component of Eflora cream, you should not use the product. Signs of an allergic reaction may include severe redness, swelling, intense itching, blistering, or rash at or beyond the application site, and rarely difficulty breathing or facial swelling. If you suspect an allergic reaction, stop using the cream immediately, wash the area with mild soap and water, and seek medical attention urgently if symptoms are severe.
Eflora cream is primarily approved and studied for use on the face and under the chin in women. Its safety and effectiveness on other body areas such as the chest, arms, or legs have not been as well established. Do not apply it to large body areas, broken skin, or mucous membranes unless specifically instructed by your doctor. Using it outside the recommended areas may increase the risk of irritation or other side effects.
Eflora cream does not permanently remove hair. It slows the growth of new hair and can make hair less noticeable with continuous use, but it does not destroy hair follicles. If you stop using the cream, hair growth typically returns to its previous pattern over time. For this reason, it is often used as a long-term management option alongside physical hair removal methods.
Common side effects of Eflora cream are usually mild and limited to the application site. They may include burning, stinging, tingling, redness, dryness, rash, or small bumps. These effects often improve as the skin adjusts. If side effects are severe, spread beyond the treated area, or do not improve, you should stop using the cream and consult your doctor for further advice.
