Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Allergies
Contraindicated in known hypersensitivityDo not take Enteroquinol if you have a known allergy to iodoquinol, other 8‑hydroxyquinoline derivatives, iodine, or any tablet ingredient.
ENTEROQUINOL 250MG TABLET 20'S is effective if used in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking it even if you see improvement in your condition. If you stop using ENTEROQUINOL 250MG TABLET 20'S too early, the symptoms may return or worsen.
The use of ENTEROQUINOL 250MG TABLET 20'S is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to any other ingredients of this medicine, and if you are suffering from asthma. Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions before taking the medicine.
Keep this medicine in the container or pack it came in, tightly closed. Store it as mentioned on the pack or label. Dispose of the unused medicine. Make sure it is not consumed by pets, children and other people.
If you forget a dose of ENTEROQUINOL 250MG TABLET 20'S, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next scheduled dose in the prescribed time. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one as this may increase the chances of developing side effects.
ENTEROQUINOL 250MG TABLET 20'S is safe if used in the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Take it exactly as directed and do not skip any dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully and let your doctor know if any of the side effects bother you.
Enteroquinol tablets are primarily used as a luminal amoebicide to treat intestinal amoebiasis and to help eliminate Entamoeba histolytica from the gut, including in asymptomatic carriers, when prescribed by a doctor. They act locally in the intestine and are not meant for systemic infections or routine treatment of common diarrhea.
No. Enteroquinol should not be used for all types of diarrhea. It is intended for specific protozoal infections such as intestinal amoebiasis. Many diarrheal illnesses are caused by viruses, bacteria, food intolerance, or other conditions that require different treatment. Using Enteroquinol without proper diagnosis can mask symptoms and delay appropriate care.
Enteroquinol is mainly active in the intestine, but in some people it may affect liver function, especially if used for longer than recommended or in high cumulative doses. Patients with existing liver disease should inform their doctor before starting therapy. Liver function tests may be advised in those with significant hepatic impairment. Any symptoms such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or persistent fatigue should be reported immediately.
Caution is advised in patients with kidney impairment. Although Enteroquinol acts largely in the gut, altered elimination in kidney disease may increase the risk of side effects. People with chronic kidney disease or reduced kidney function should only use Enteroquinol under close medical supervision, and the prescriber may consider alternative treatments depending on the severity of renal impairment.
Safety data for Enteroquinol use in pregnancy are limited. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit clearly outweighs the potential risk to the mother and fetus, and only under specialist medical advice. Pregnant women with suspected amoebiasis should be properly evaluated, and safer or better‑studied alternatives may be preferred when available. Self‑medication in pregnancy is strongly discouraged.
Information on the excretion of iodoquinol into breast milk is limited. Because of the potential for adverse effects in the nursing infant, Enteroquinol should be used with caution in breastfeeding women and only if prescribed by a doctor who has assessed the risks and benefits. In some cases, an alternative medicine or temporary interruption of breastfeeding may be considered, depending on the clinical situation.
Enteroquinol may cause side effects such as dizziness, headache, or, rarely, visual disturbances and peripheral neuropathy. If you experience blurred vision, difficulty focusing, dizziness, or numbness and tingling in your hands or feet, you should avoid driving, cycling, or operating machinery and contact your doctor immediately. Do not drive until you know how the medicine affects you.
There is no well‑established specific interaction between Enteroquinol and alcohol, but drinking alcohol can worsen gastrointestinal irritation and may complicate the assessment of side effects such as dizziness or headache. In addition, alcohol can stress the liver, which is undesirable when taking any potentially hepatotoxic medicine. It is generally advisable to limit or avoid alcohol while on Enteroquinol therapy.
If you have a known allergy to iodoquinol, other 8‑hydroxyquinoline derivatives, iodine, or any component of the tablet, you should not take Enteroquinol. Inform your doctor about any previous severe skin rashes, swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulties, or other serious reactions to medicines. Seek urgent medical help if you develop rash, itching, swelling, or trouble breathing after taking a dose.
No. Enteroquinol is not intended for long‑term use or for routine prevention of diarrhea or intestinal infections. Prolonged or repeated courses increase the risk of serious adverse effects, including optic nerve damage and peripheral neuropathy, which may be irreversible. It should be taken only for the duration and indication specified by your doctor, and not as a general preventive or chronic therapy.
While many people tolerate short courses reasonably well, you should watch for symptoms such as persistent headache, visual changes (blurred vision, difficulty seeing clearly, changes in color vision), numbness or tingling in hands or feet, unsteady walking, severe abdominal pain, skin rash, or signs of thyroid disturbance such as neck swelling, unexplained weight changes, or palpitations. If any of these occur, stop the medicine and seek medical advice promptly.
Use in children must be strictly guided by a pediatrician or specialist in infectious diseases or gastroenterology. Children may be more susceptible to certain side effects, and dosing must be carefully calculated based on age, weight, and severity of infection. Caregivers should never give Enteroquinol to a child without explicit medical instruction and should adhere closely to the prescribed duration.
