EXELON 4.5MG CAPSULE 14'S belongs to a group of medicines called cholinesterase inhibitors, and its active ingredient is Rivastigmine. It is primarily used to treat mild to moderate Alzheimer's dementia in adults, a progressive brain disorder that impacts memory, intellect, and behavior. In Alzheimer's, specific nerve cells die, resulting in lower levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is vital for nerve communication. This medication works by inhibiting the enzymes that degrade acetylcholine, thereby alleviating the symptoms of Alzheimer's. It is also prescribed for managing dementia in adults with Parkinson's disease.
Avoid taking EXELON 4.5MG CAPSULE 14'S if you're allergic to Rivastigmine or any of its components. Do not use this medication if you've experienced a severe skin reaction to a transdermal patch that didn't improve within 48 hours of removal. It's also not suitable for individuals allergic to carbamate derivatives, like neostigmine used for treating myasthenia gravis or darunavir for HIV.
