How FERFY FORTE TABLET 10'S Works

• Iron is the core of haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. When iron stores run low, the bone marrow makes fewer and smaller red cells, causing tiredness, breathlessness and pale skin. Iron from the tablet is absorbed in the upper small intestine and used to rebuild haemoglobin and iron stores.
• Folic acid and vitamin B12 are needed for red cells to divide and mature normally. A lack of either causes large, immature red cells. Vitamin B6 is also needed to make haemoglobin, and copper helps the body move iron into use.

Iron commonly causes nausea, stomach pain, constipation or diarrhoea, and it turns the stools dark or black, which is harmless. Taking it with food can reduce stomach upset, although food lowers iron absorption. The fish-oil content can cause a fishy aftertaste or burping. Allergic reactions such as rash, itching or swelling are uncommon and mean the tablets should be stopped. Black, tarry stools with stomach pain, or vomiting blood, can signal bleeding rather than an iron effect and need urgent medical attention.

• If you miss a dose of Ferfy Forte Tablet 10'S, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

• Store the strip in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Biokind pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Keep the strip well out of the reach of children
• Take tea, coffee and milk at a different time from the tablet
• Space it apart from thyroid tablets, antacids and some antibiotics
• Expect dark stools, but report black, tarry stools with stomach pain
• Keep follow-up blood test appointments
• Eat iron-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, pulses, jaggery and meat

• Tea, coffee, milk, calcium-rich foods and whole grains reduce iron absorption when taken at the same time. Foods rich in vitamin C, such as amla, citrus fruit and guava, improve absorption.
