Common: mild drowsiness or sleepiness, dry mouth, and occasionally nausea or stomach discomfort. Phenylephrine may cause mild restlessness or a faster heartbeat in some children. Serious (seek medical attention): signs of an allergic reaction (rash, swelling of the face/lips, difficulty breathing); a fast or irregular heartbeat; or unusual drowsiness or agitation. Important: exceeding the recommended paracetamol dose can seriously harm the liver — never give more than directed, and do not give other paracetamol-containing products at the same time.
Give the dose your doctor advises, based on the child's age and weight, using the measuring cup or dropper provided (not a household spoon). Shake the bottle well before use. Do not exceed the stated number of doses in 24 hours.
It is not recommended for children under 2 years. For children aged 2–12 years, give it only as directed by your doctor. Never use it to make a child sleepy.
Do not give any other medicine containing paracetamol (many cold, flu, and pain products contain it) at the same time, and never exceed the recommended dose — a paracetamol overdose can cause serious liver damage. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical help immediately even if the child seems well.
It can, because of the chlorpheniramine. If the child seems very drowsy, restless, or has a fast heartbeat, contact your doctor. Keep the child from activities needing alertness (like cycling) until you see how it affects them.
Tell your doctor if the child has heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, a thyroid disorder, liver or kidney problems, glaucoma, or difficulty passing urine, or is taking (or recently took) MAO-inhibitor medicines. Stop and see a doctor if symptoms last more than a few days, worsen, or come with high or persistent fever or breathing difficulty.
