How FLUDAC 20MG CAPSULE 15'S Works

• Nerve cells in the brain release serotonin to pass signals to one another, then take it back up again. Fluoxetine blocks this reuptake, so more serotonin stays available between nerve cells. Over several weeks, the brain adapts to this change, which is thought to lift mood and reduce obsessive thoughts, compulsions and binge-eating.
• Fluoxetine and its active breakdown product, norfluoxetine, stay in the body for a long time. They persist for five to six weeks after the last dose, which matters for side effects and interactions after stopping.

The most common side effects are headache, nausea, difficulty sleeping, tiredness and diarrhoea. Others include reduced appetite and weight loss, anxiety, nervousness, restlessness, abnormal dreams, dizziness, drowsiness, tremor, blurred vision, dry mouth, indigestion, vomiting, sweating, rash, itching, yawning, frequent urination and sexual problems such as reduced sex drive, difficulty reaching orgasm, erectile dysfunction and ejaculation problems. Many of these lessen as treatment continues. Some effects need prompt medical advice. These include thoughts of self-harm or suicide, especially early in treatment or after a dose change and in people under 25, and akathisia, a distressing restlessness and inability to sit still. Others are unusually high mood or overactivity, easy bruising or bleeding, seizures, and a fast or irregular heartbeat. Serotonin syndrome, which causes agitation, confusion, sweating, fast heartbeat, muscle twitching and high temperature, is an emergency. So are severe skin reactions and allergic reactions with swelling of the face or throat.

• Store the strip in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Cadila pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Keep taking it as prescribed, since benefit builds over several weeks
• Contact the doctor at once about thoughts of self-harm or worsening mood
• Do not stop it suddenly without the doctor's advice
• Tell every doctor and pharmacist about fluoxetine, including for weeks after stopping
• Avoid alcohol during treatment
• Avoid St John's wort and other herbal mood remedies

• Fludac can be taken with or without food. Alcohol is not advised during treatment, as it can worsen depression and anxiety.
