• Ademetionine acts as a methyl donor in the body, supplying methyl groups needed for numerous cell processes, including repairing DNA, regulating which genes are active, and building new proteins. In the liver, it supports the production of bile, the fluid needed to digest fats and clear waste products from the body, which is why it is used in cholestatic liver conditions.
• Ademetionine is also needed to make glutathione, an important antioxidant that helps protect liver cells from damage. In osteoarthritis, it is believed to reduce substances that drive inflammation and to support the maintenance of cartilage. Its role in mood is less well defined but is thought to relate to its involvement in the production of certain brain chemical messengers.

Nausea, abdominal discomfort and dry mouth are the most commonly reported effects. Headache and mild sleep disturbance, such as difficulty falling asleep, have also been reported. A severe allergic reaction, such as facial swelling or breathing difficulty, needs immediate medical attention.
