JAKAVI 5MG TABLET 10'S contains the active ingredient ruxolitinib. This medicine is a type of anticancer drug known as a kinase inhibitor. It's primarily used to treat specific conditions affecting the blood and bone marrow.
One main use is treating myelofibrosis. This is a rare bone marrow cancer where the bone marrow doesn't make enough healthy blood cells properly, leading to scarring and other issues. It also treats polycythemia vera, a type of blood cancer where the body makes too many red blood cells. This medicine is used for polycythemia vera only in patients who haven't responded well to or cannot take hydroxyurea treatment.
Additionally, JAKAVI 5MG TABLET 10'S is used to manage graft versus host disease (GvHD). This is a serious complication that can happen after a bone marrow transplant, where the transplanted cells attack the patient's body. It treats acute GvHD in adults and children 12 years and older when steroids haven't worked effectively. It also treats chronic GvHD in adults and children 12 years and older after treatment with one or two other systemic therapies hasn't been successful.
