Common: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, double or blurred vision, nausea, and skin rash. Serious (seek urgent medical attention): any skin rash, blistering, or peeling, or sores in the mouth/eyes — rarely lamotrigine causes life-threatening skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), especially early in treatment or if the dose is increased too quickly; also fever with swollen glands, or new or worsening mood or thoughts of self-harm.
Take it exactly as prescribed. When starting, the dose is increased very gradually — do not speed this up, as raising it too fast increases the risk of a serious rash. Swallow with water at the same times each day.
Any new rash, blistering, peeling, mouth/eye sores, or fever with swollen glands needs urgent medical attention — stop and contact a doctor straight away, especially in the first weeks of treatment.
No. Stopping suddenly can trigger seizures or mood episodes. Your doctor will reduce it gradually if needed. Never stop on your own.
Take a missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for the next; do not double up. If you miss several days, contact your doctor — you may need to restart at a lower dose.
Do not drink alcohol, which increases drowsiness. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, or start/stop hormonal contraception, as this can affect lamotrigine levels.
