Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Allergies
Contraindicated in known hypersensitivityDo not use Laxolite syrup if you have a known allergy to lactulose or any excipient in the formulation.
LAXOLITE ORAL LIQUID 200ML is a medicine used to treat constipation and for intestine preparation before surgical procedures. It works by pulling more water into the intestines, which is called osmosis. When there is more water in the intestines, the stool becomes softer or even watery and is easier to pass.
The side effects of LAXOLITE ORAL LIQUID 200ML are stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea. However, these are usually not bothersome, but if they do not resolve, please consult your doctor.
LAXOLITE ORAL LIQUID 200ML usually takes 2 to 3 days to start working. It works by increasing the fluid in the small intestine, thus making stools softer and easier to pass. As a result, a bowel movement is stimulated by causing a watery diarrhea.
You must take a fiber-rich diet such as vegetables, fresh fruits and whole grains if you have constipation. Drink plenty of water and avoid taking alcohol. This will ensure that your stools are soft and easy to pass. You may also take laxatives or fiber supplements if you are facing issues with digestion. If still your symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor.
It is advised not to take LAXOLITE ORAL LIQUID 200ML for more than 7 days days. If your symptoms do not improve within a week, please consult your doctor.
Laxolite syrup is primarily used to relieve constipation by softening stools and increasing bowel movements. In some cases, under strict medical supervision, lactulose-based products like Laxolite may also be used as part of the management of hepatic encephalopathy in patients with certain liver diseases.
Laxolite syrup usually contains an osmotic laxative such as lactulose. It is not absorbed significantly into the bloodstream but reaches the colon, where it draws water into the intestinal lumen and is fermented by gut bacteria. This increases stool water content, softens the stool, and stimulates bowel movements, helping to relieve constipation.
Laxolite syrup should not be used long term without medical supervision. While it can be used for chronic constipation in some patients, prolonged unsupervised use may lead to dependence on laxatives, electrolyte disturbances, or masking of underlying conditions. Always follow your doctor’s advice regarding duration and schedule regular reviews if you need it for more than a short period.
In certain liver conditions, especially hepatic encephalopathy, lactulose-based syrups like Laxolite can be beneficial and are often prescribed by specialists. They help reduce ammonia absorption from the gut. However, the decision to use it, and the exact regimen, must be made by a doctor familiar with the patient’s liver status, other medicines, and overall health.
Patients with kidney disease should use Laxolite syrup only on medical advice. Although lactulose itself is minimally absorbed, changes in fluid balance and electrolytes can be important in kidney impairment. A doctor will assess kidney function, monitor electrolytes if needed, and decide whether this laxative is appropriate and for how long it can be used safely.
Laxolite syrup may be considered in pregnancy when lifestyle measures fail, but it should only be used after consultation with a healthcare professional. Many obstetric guidelines consider lactulose relatively safe because systemic absorption is low, yet each pregnant woman’s situation is different. The doctor will weigh the benefits of relieving constipation against any potential risks and recommend the most suitable option.
Lactulose-based syrups like Laxolite are generally considered compatible with breastfeeding because they are poorly absorbed from the mother’s gut and very little, if any, reaches breast milk. However, you should still inform your doctor or pediatrician before using it while breastfeeding, especially if your baby has any health issues or is premature.
Laxolite syrup does not usually affect alertness, coordination, or reaction time, so it is not expected to impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience significant abdominal cramps, urgent bowel movements, dizziness due to dehydration, or any unusual symptoms, avoid driving and consult your doctor.
There is no direct interaction known between alcohol and lactulose-based syrups like Laxolite, but alcohol itself can worsen dehydration and may aggravate constipation or diarrhea. If you are taking Laxolite for a liver condition, alcohol should generally be avoided completely. Discuss alcohol use with your doctor, especially if you have liver disease or other chronic illnesses.
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to lactulose or any ingredient in Laxolite syrup, you should not use it. Signs of allergy may include rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Stop the medicine immediately and seek urgent medical help if any of these occur. Inform your doctor about all known allergies before starting this or any other laxative.
Common side effects include bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, nausea, and sometimes loose stools or diarrhea, especially when starting treatment or if the dose is high. These effects are often mild and may improve as your body adjusts or when the dose is modified by your doctor. Severe or persistent diarrhea, cramps, or signs of dehydration such as dizziness and reduced urination require medical attention.
If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of diarrhea and abdominal discomfort. If you frequently forget doses, speak with your doctor or pharmacist about ways to improve adherence.
