How LEVOLIN INHALER Works

• During bronchospasm, the smooth muscle surrounding the airways tightens, narrowing the space air can pass through. Levosalbutamol acts on beta-2 receptors in this muscle, causing it to relax.
• As the muscle relaxes, the airway widens, easing wheezing, breathlessness and chest tightness. Because it is inhaled directly into the lungs, the effect begins quickly, which is why it is used as a reliever for sudden symptoms.

Tremor, a fast or pounding heartbeat, headache, nervousness and muscle cramps are commonly reported, since levosalbutamol also acts on beta-2 receptors in muscle and heart tissue. Throat irritation, cough and nasal congestion have also been reported. Chest pain, a marked increase in heart rate, or shakiness that does not settle should be reported to the prescriber. Needing the inhaler more often than usual, or several times a week, can be a sign that asthma or COPD is not well controlled and needs medical review.

• Store the inhaler in its original pack, out of the reach of children and pets. Keep it at the temperature stated on the current Cipla pack. Do not use the inhaler after the expiry date printed on the pack.

• Keep the inhaler upright while loading and using a dose, to help the medicine disperse correctly
• Shake the inhaler gently before each use
• Carry the inhaler for prompt use during sudden breathing difficulty
• Ask the prescriber or pharmacist for a demonstration of correct technique if unsure
• Tell the prescriber if this inhaler is needed more often than advised, since this can mean the underlying condition needs review
• Tell the prescriber about heart disease or diabetes before starting
• Avoid smoking, which can make breathing more difficult and reduce the inhaler's benefit

• No specific food interaction has been established for Levolin.
• Alcohol can add to the heart rate and flushing effects some patients experience and is best used in moderation, particularly by anyone with heart disease or poorly controlled asthma or COPD.
