Most side effects are temporary and disappear as your body adapts to the medication. However, if any side effects persist or cause concern, it's important to consult your doctor. Common side effects of MEGABROM EYE DROPS 5 ML include:

General precautions and other conditions
Use under medical supervisionMegabrom eye drops are for ophthalmic use only and must not be injected or taken by mouth. Keep the bottle out of reach of children and store it as directed on the label.
Always wash your hands before (and after) using MEGABROM EYE DROPS 5 ML. This prevents you from passing the infection from one eye to the other. Remove the cap just before using your medicine and replace it as soon as you have finished. Avoid touching the nozzle of the bottle with your fingers. Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid with a clean finger. Hold the bottle over the eye and allow a single drop to fall into the space between your lower lid and your eye. Close your eye and gently press your finger over the inside corner of your eye (over the eyelid) for about a minute. This helps prevent the drop from draining out of the eye. Repeat in your other eye if your doctor has told you to do this.
Instill one drop into the affected eye(s) once daily beginning 1 day prior to surgery, continued on the day of surgery, and through the first 14 days post-surgery. However, follow your doctor's instructions regarding dosage since it may vary from patient to patient.
You should contact your doctor immediately if you develop abnormal sensations in the eye, eye irritation (including burning/stinging), eye pain, eye allergy, eye redness, headache, and iritis (inflammation of the colored part of your eye).
Always consult your doctor before using any other eye drops along with MEGABROM EYE DROPS 5 ML. It is advisable to give a gap of atleast 5 minutes between the two medications.
Use of any other topical pain relieving medicine with MEGABROM EYE DROPS 5 ML may slow or delay healing of your operated eye. Consult your doctor in case of any doubts.
Megabrom eye drops contain bromfenac, a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduce inflammation and pain in the eye. It is most commonly prescribed after cataract surgery or other ocular procedures to control postoperative inflammation, redness, and discomfort. In some cases, it may be used for other inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment of the eye, as determined by an ophthalmologist.
Megabrom eye drops work by inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes in ocular tissues, which reduces the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemical mediators that contribute to inflammation, pain, and swelling. By lowering prostaglandin levels in the eye, bromfenac helps decrease postoperative inflammation, pain, and associated symptoms such as redness and photophobia.
Megabrom eye drops should be used exactly as directed by your ophthalmologist. Typically, the prescribed regimen specifies how many drops to instill and how often, as well as the duration of treatment. Wash your hands, tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops without touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface. Close your eye gently for a short period after instillation. Do not adjust the dose or duration on your own; follow your doctor’s instructions and the product leaflet.
In general, contact lenses should be removed before using Megabrom eye drops, especially if the product contains preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride, which can be absorbed by soft lenses and cause irritation. After instilling the drops, you should wait for a period recommended by your eye specialist before reinserting lenses. Many patients are advised to avoid contact lens use during the immediate postoperative period. Always follow the specific advice of your ophthalmologist regarding contact lenses while using this medicine.
Common side effects of Megabrom eye drops include mild and transient eye irritation, burning or stinging upon instillation, eye redness, itching, foreign body sensation, and temporary blurred vision. These effects are usually short-lived. If side effects are persistent, bothersome, or worsen over time, you should contact your ophthalmologist for assessment and guidance.
Although uncommon, serious ocular adverse effects can occur with topical NSAIDs such as bromfenac. These may include delayed corneal healing, corneal epithelial breakdown, corneal thinning, corneal ulceration, or, rarely, corneal perforation. The risk is higher in patients with pre-existing corneal disease, severe dry eye, diabetes, autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, or those using topical corticosteroids concurrently. Any new or severe eye pain, sudden decrease in vision, marked redness, or light sensitivity should be treated as urgent and evaluated by an eye specialist immediately.
Use of Megabrom eye drops during pregnancy should be based on a careful risk–benefit assessment by a healthcare professional. Systemic absorption after ocular administration is limited but not zero, and NSAIDs can potentially affect the fetus, particularly in later stages of pregnancy. Pregnant women, or those planning to become pregnant, should inform their ophthalmologist before starting Megabrom so that alternative options or additional precautions can be considered.
Data on the excretion of bromfenac into human breast milk after ophthalmic use are limited. Systemic exposure from eye drops is expected to be low, but potential effects on the breastfed infant cannot be completely excluded. Breastfeeding women should discuss the use of Megabrom eye drops with their doctor, who will weigh the clinical need for treatment against any theoretical risks and may recommend monitoring the infant for unusual symptoms.
Megabrom eye drops may cause temporary blurred vision or mild visual disturbance immediately after instillation. You should not drive, operate machinery, or perform tasks requiring clear vision until your sight has fully cleared and you feel comfortable. If you experience persistent visual changes, eye pain, or significant discomfort, avoid driving and seek medical advice promptly.
If you miss a scheduled dose of Megabrom eye drops, instill it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill extra drops to make up for a missed dose, as this will not improve efficacy and may increase the risk of irritation or other side effects. If you frequently forget doses, discuss this with your ophthalmologist for practical strategies or adjustments.
Megabrom eye drops can be used alongside other ophthalmic medications when prescribed by an eye specialist. If you are using multiple eye drops, they are usually spaced at least 5 to 10 minutes apart to prevent dilution or washout of the previous medication. Ointments are generally applied last. Inform your ophthalmologist about all eye drops and systemic medicines you are taking, including corticosteroids, anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, and other NSAIDs, so that potential interactions and additive effects on the cornea or bleeding risk can be considered.
