Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Suicidality and Psychiatric Monitoring
Monitor closelyAntidepressants, including Mirtaz 7.5, may be associated with an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, particularly in younger adults and during the early phases of treatment or dose adjustments.

Mirtaz 7.5 contains mirtazapine, an antidepressant used primarily to treat major depressive disorder. It helps improve symptoms such as persistent low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, sleep disturbance, fatigue, and changes in appetite. In some patients, it may also help reduce associated anxiety and improve sleep quality. The exact indication for an individual patient should be confirmed by the prescribing doctor.
Mirtazapine, the active ingredient in Mirtaz 7.5, enhances the activity of noradrenaline and serotonin in the brain by blocking presynaptic alpha‑2 adrenergic receptors and certain serotonin receptors. This leads to increased release of these neurotransmitters, which are involved in mood regulation. Over time, this modulation can relieve depressive symptoms and improve overall emotional stability and sleep, although the full effect may take several weeks to become evident.
Some people may notice improvements in sleep and appetite within the first one to two weeks of starting mirtazapine. However, mood and energy changes often take longer, typically two to four weeks or more. In some cases, a full therapeutic response may require six to eight weeks of consistent use. It is important to continue taking the medicine as prescribed and attend follow‑up appointments so the doctor can assess response and adjust treatment if needed.
Stopping Mirtaz 7.5 abruptly is not recommended. Sudden discontinuation can lead to withdrawal‑like symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headache, irritability, anxiety, sweating, and sleep disturbances. If your doctor decides that treatment should be stopped, the dose is usually reduced gradually over a period of time to minimize these effects. Always consult your healthcare provider before changing or stopping your medication, even if you feel well.
Common side effects of Mirtaz 7.5 include drowsiness or sleepiness, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, and fatigue. Some people may experience vivid dreams or restlessness. These effects are often mild to moderate and may lessen as the body adjusts to the medicine. If side effects are persistent, troublesome, or worsening, you should discuss them with your doctor, who may adjust the dose or consider alternative options.
Mirtazapine is known to increase appetite and can lead to weight gain in some patients, especially during the first months of treatment. The degree of weight change varies between individuals. Maintaining a balanced diet, monitoring body weight regularly, and engaging in appropriate physical activity can help manage this effect. If weight gain becomes significant or concerning, speak with your doctor about possible strategies or treatment adjustments.
Alcohol is generally not recommended while taking Mirtaz 7.5. Both alcohol and mirtazapine depress the central nervous system and can increase drowsiness, dizziness, impaired concentration, and reduced coordination. This combination may also worsen mood symptoms in some people. If you consume alcohol, discuss this with your doctor so that individual risks can be assessed and clear guidance can be provided.
Mirtazapine is not classified as a controlled or habit‑forming substance in the way that some sedatives or opioid pain medicines are. However, the body can become accustomed to its presence, and stopping it suddenly may cause withdrawal‑like symptoms. For this reason, it should always be started, adjusted, and discontinued under medical supervision. Taking the medicine exactly as prescribed reduces the risk of misuse or dependence‑like behavior.
Mirtaz 7.5 can be prescribed to older adults, but additional caution is required. Older patients may be more sensitive to side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, low blood pressure, confusion, and changes in sodium levels, which can increase the risk of falls. Dose selection, titration, and monitoring should be individualized, often starting at a lower total daily dose. Kidney and liver function, other medications, and overall frailty should be carefully reviewed by the prescriber.
If you miss a dose of Mirtaz 7.5 and remember within a relatively short time, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet. If you frequently forget doses, speak with your doctor or pharmacist about strategies to improve adherence.
Mirtaz 7.5 may sometimes be used alongside other psychotropic medicines, but this must be carefully managed by a specialist. Combining mirtazapine with certain antidepressants, particularly monoamine oxidase inhibitors or drugs that strongly increase serotonin levels, can raise the risk of serious reactions such as serotonin syndrome. It can also interact with medicines that prolong the QT interval or cause sedation. Always inform your doctor and pharmacist about all prescription, over‑the‑counter, and herbal products you are using before starting Mirtaz 7.5.
