Most side effects are temporary and disappear as your body adapts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if side effects persist or cause concern.

Neuropsychiatric Effects
Monitor mood and behaviorMontelukast has been associated with a range of neuropsychiatric events, including agitation, aggression, anxiety, irritability, restlessness, tremor, sleep disturbances, nightmares, hallucinations, depression, and, rarely, suicidal thoughts or behavior.
Usually, it is recommended to take MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S in the evening when it is being used for asthma and allergic rhinitis (cough and cold due to allergy). However, the exact reason for this is not yet known. Some studies have shown that there is no difference in effectiveness whether MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S is taken in the evening or morning. Hence, take the medicine as directed by your doctor.
No, MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S is not a steroid. It is a leukotriene blocker. Leukotrienes are natural substances released during an allergic reaction which causes constriction of muscles of airway. It can also cause allergy symptoms. This medicine blocks leukotrienes which helps in relieving symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis.
An uncommon side effect of MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S is drowsiness. It can also cause dizziness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Consult your doctor if you experience these side effects.
Consumption of alcohol should be restricted while taking MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S as it may cause dizziness and drowsiness as a side effect. Also, liver disorders caused as side effect of MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S may occur more commonly with use of alcohol.
Yes, although uncommonly but MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S may cause mood changes. The symptoms of mood change include anxiety, agitation, aggressive behaviour or hostility, irritability, and restlessness. One may also experience depression and suicidal tendency. Consult your doctor immediately in case you develop any of these symptoms.
Yes, in rare cases MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S may cause night mares, sleeplessness, and sleep walking. You should contact your doctor if these symptoms persist.
MONTAIR 10MG TABLET 15'S should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. The medicine should be used preferably in the evening with or without food when being used for asthma. Whereas, for allergic rhinitis, it can be taken at any time of the day but at the same time each day. But, if you are taking it to avoid breathing difficulties during exercise, it should be taken 2 hours before exercise.
It can be directly given in the mouth or dissolve in 1 teaspoonful of cold or room temperature baby formula or breast milk. It can also be used with 1 spoonful of mashed carrots, applesauce, rice, or ice-cream. Remember to give the mixture within 15 minutes of making it.
Montair is a brand of medicine whose active ingredient is montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It is used mainly for the prevention and long‑term management of asthma and for relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, nasal congestion, and runny nose.
Montair blocks cysteinyl leukotriene receptors (CysLT1) in the airways and nasal passages. Leukotrienes are inflammatory substances that cause bronchoconstriction, airway swelling, and mucus production. By blocking their action, Montair helps reduce airway inflammation, relax the bronchial muscles, and improve symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis.
No. Montair is not a rescue medication and does not provide rapid relief of acute asthma attacks. It is a controller medicine used to prevent symptoms and reduce the frequency of attacks. For sudden breathing difficulty or wheezing, a fast‑acting bronchodilator inhaler prescribed by a doctor should be used. Patients should always keep their rescue inhaler available.
Some improvement in symptoms may be noticed within the first day of starting Montair, but the full benefit usually develops over several days of regular use. It is important to continue taking it every day as prescribed, even when you feel well, to maintain control of asthma or allergy symptoms.
Common side effects reported with montelukast include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, indigestion, and fatigue. Some people may experience upper respiratory tract infections, cough, or flu‑like symptoms. These effects are usually mild and transient, but if they persist or become bothersome, medical advice should be sought.
Yes. Montelukast has been associated, although rarely, with neuropsychiatric events such as agitation, irritability, anxiety, restlessness, sleep disturbances, abnormal dreams, depression, and suicidal thoughts or behavior. If any changes in mood, behavior, or sleep patterns occur, the patient or caregiver should contact a healthcare professional immediately. Very rare cases of systemic eosinophilia and vasculitis consistent with Churg–Strauss syndrome have also been reported, usually in patients whose oral corticosteroids were being reduced.
No, you should not stop or reduce your inhaled or oral corticosteroid on your own when starting Montair. Montair is not a substitute for corticosteroids. Any change in existing asthma medication, including dose reduction, must be done gradually and only under the supervision of a healthcare professional who can monitor your symptoms and lung function.
Data from available studies and post‑marketing experience do not suggest a major increase in the risk of congenital malformations with montelukast, but controlled data in pregnant women are limited. Montair should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. A pregnant woman or someone planning pregnancy should discuss the risks and benefits with her doctor before starting or continuing Montair.
Montelukast is excreted in breast milk in small amounts. Limited human data suggest that exposure to the nursing infant is low. Montair may be considered during breastfeeding when clinically indicated, but the decision should be individualized. The prescribing clinician will weigh the benefits of asthma or allergy control for the mother against any potential risk to the infant.
Montelukast is metabolized mainly by liver enzymes such as CYP3A4 and CYP2C9. Strong inducers of these enzymes, such as certain antiepileptic drugs (for example, phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine) and rifampicin, may reduce montelukast blood levels and potentially decrease its effectiveness. Patients should inform their doctor about all prescription medicines, over‑the‑counter drugs, and herbal supplements they are taking so that potential interactions can be assessed.
Montelukast is approved for use in children, but the appropriate strength and formulation depend on the child’s age and clinical condition. Chewable tablets and granules are typically used in younger age groups, while standard tablets are used in older children and adults. A pediatrician should determine whether Montair is suitable for a child and select the correct product and regimen.
If you miss a dose of Montair, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten tablet. Consistent daily use is important for optimal control of symptoms.
