How MUCINAC 600MG TABLET 10'S Works

• Mucus becomes thick and sticky when its large protein molecules link together through chemical bridges called disulphide bonds. Acetylcysteine breaks these bonds, so the long chains fall apart and the mucus becomes thinner and runnier.
• Acetylcysteine is also turned into cysteine in the body, a building block of glutathione. Glutathione is one of the lungs' main antioxidants, which protect the airway lining from damage by irritants and inflammation.

Acetylcysteine is well tolerated by most people. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, mouth ulcers and heartburn are the effects Cipla's prescribing information lists most often. Headache, ringing in the ears and fever are also reported. At the start of treatment, the volume of mucus can increase as it loosens. People who cannot cough effectively may need help to clear it. Allergic reactions, including wheezing or tightness of the chest, rash, hives, itching, swelling of the face and a fast heartbeat, need prompt medical help. Wheezing needs particular attention in people with asthma. Serious skin reactions with blistering or peeling have been reported in isolated cases and mean the tablets should be stopped straight away.

• Store below 25°C, in the strip, protected from moisture, since effervescent tablets absorb damp and lose their fizz. Keep the pack out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Dissolve the tablet fully in half a glass of water before drinking
• Never swallow the tablet whole
• Do not take a cough suppressant at the same time without advice
• Keep oral antibiotics two hours apart from Mucinac
• Expect more mucus at first as it loosens, and cough it up
• Tell the doctor about asthma, a stomach ulcer or phenylketonuria
• Do not give this strength to children under 14 unless a doctor directs it

• No specific food interactions are reported for acetylcysteine. Drinking enough water helps keep mucus thin. People with phenylketonuria should count the aspartame in these tablets within their dietary plan.
