Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by NICARDIA 20MG RETARD TABLET 15'S. While all medicines can cause side effects, not everyone experiences them.

Heart and circulation
Specialist supervision advisedNicardia Retard 20 affects the cardiovascular system and should be used with particular caution in patients with certain heart conditions, such as severe aortic stenosis, unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, or advanced heart failure.
Yes, side effects of Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet may include severe allergic reactions and liver or kidney problems. You must seek medical attention if you encounter any side effects, such as swelling, difficulty breathing, nausea, and rashes.
The vasodilation of Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet can lead to an increased chance of fluid leakage from the blood vessels into the surrounding tissues, resulting in edema. It occurs in the lower extremities, such as the ankles and feet. It's important to monitor for signs of edema while taking this drug and inform your healthcare provider if you notice any unusual swelling or changes in your extremities.
Immediate-release tablets of Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet typically start working within 30 minutes to 1 hour after administration. Extended-release formulations may take longer to reach their maximum effect, with onset times ranging from 1 to 2 hours.
No, Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet should not be given sublingually (under the tongue). It is available in various formulations, including immediate-release tablets and extended-release capsules, which are meant to be swallowed whole with water.
Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet works by blocking the influx of calcium ions into certain cells, leading to relaxation and dilation of blood vessels, which mainly helps to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow.
If you have low blood pressure (hypotension), taking Nicardia Retard 20mg Tablet may further decrease your blood pressure and cause symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, or fatigue. Therefore, taking this drug if you have low blood pressure is generally not recommended unless specifically prescribed and closely monitored by your healthcare provider.
Nicardia 20mg Retard Tablet is primarily used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) and to prevent angina (heart-related chest pain). It helps in reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes by improving blood flow and decreasing the workload on the heart.
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, swelling of ankles or feet, fatigue, palpitations, flushing, and constipation. These effects are usually mild and tend to resolve over time.
Nicardia Retard 20 contains nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker, and is mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and chronic stable angina (chest pain due to reduced blood flow to the heart). By relaxing blood vessels, it lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow to the heart muscle, helping to prevent angina episodes and reduce cardiovascular risk. In some cases, specialists may also use nifedipine for conditions involving blood vessel spasm, such as Raynaud’s phenomenon, but such uses are individualized and off-label.
Nicardia Retard 20 contains nifedipine, which blocks L-type calcium channels in the smooth muscle of blood vessel walls. This reduces calcium entry into cells, leading to relaxation and dilation of arteries. As a result, peripheral vascular resistance falls, blood pressure decreases, and the heart’s workload is reduced. In coronary arteries, this vasodilation improves blood flow to the heart muscle, helping to prevent angina. The modified-release formulation provides a gradual, sustained release of nifedipine, leading to more stable blood levels and smoother blood pressure control over the dosing interval.
Nicardia Retard 20 is not intended for emergency treatment of very high blood pressure or for rapid relief of acute angina or chest pain. It is a modified-release preparation designed for long-term control and prevention. In acute situations such as hypertensive emergencies, suspected heart attack, or sudden severe chest pain, immediate medical attention is required and other fast-acting treatments are used. Patients should follow their doctor’s instructions for managing acute symptoms and should not rely on Nicardia Retard 20 for immediate relief.
Nicardia Retard 20 should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily depending on your individual treatment plan. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and must not be crushed, chewed, or split, as this can disrupt the modified-release mechanism and alter drug exposure. It is generally recommended to take it at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels. It may be taken with or without food, but you should follow any specific instructions from your prescriber and avoid making changes without medical advice.
Common side effects of Nicardia Retard 20 include headache, flushing (warmth and redness of the face), dizziness or light-headedness, fatigue, palpitations (awareness of heartbeat), and ankle or leg swelling (peripheral edema). Some people may also experience nausea, heartburn, or mild gastrointestinal discomfort. These effects are often dose-related and may lessen as the body adjusts to treatment. However, if side effects are persistent, severe, or worrying, you should contact your healthcare provider. Sudden worsening chest pain, fainting, or marked shortness of breath require urgent medical evaluation.
Nicardia Retard 20 is commonly used as a long-term therapy for chronic hypertension and angina when prescribed and monitored appropriately. Long-term use has been well studied for nifedipine in modified-release forms. Regular follow-up is important to assess blood pressure control, angina frequency, side effects, and any changes in kidney function, heart function, or other comorbidities. Your doctor may adjust your treatment over time, add other medicines, or change therapy based on your response. Do not stop long-term treatment abruptly without medical advice, as this may destabilize blood pressure or angina control.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme in the gut wall, which is involved in the metabolism of nifedipine. This interaction can increase nifedipine blood levels and may enhance its blood pressure-lowering effect and side effects, such as dizziness, flushing, or low blood pressure. Therefore, it is generally advisable to avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Nicardia Retard 20. Other citrus fruits such as orange typically do not have this interaction, but you should follow your doctor’s dietary advice.
Nicardia Retard 20 is often used in combination with other antihypertensive medicines, such as ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, diuretics, or beta-blockers, to achieve better blood pressure control. However, combining multiple blood pressure-lowering agents can increase the risk of hypotension, dizziness, or fainting, especially when treatment is initiated or doses are changed. Your doctor will select appropriate combinations and monitor your response. You should inform your healthcare provider about all medicines you are taking and report any symptoms of excessive blood pressure lowering, such as severe dizziness or near-fainting.
If you miss a dose of Nicardia Retard 20, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one, as this may increase the risk of side effects such as low blood pressure, dizziness, or palpitations. If you frequently forget doses, discuss strategies with your healthcare provider to improve adherence.
Nicardia Retard 20 should generally not be used in people with known hypersensitivity to nifedipine or any component of the formulation. It is usually avoided or used with great caution in patients with severe aortic stenosis, cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, or recent myocardial infarction, unless specifically advised by a cardiologist. It may also be unsuitable in certain severe heart failure states. Patients with significant liver impairment, very low baseline blood pressure, or those taking strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers require careful assessment and dose adjustment. Always inform your doctor about your full medical history before starting therapy.
Use of Nicardia Retard 20 during pregnancy or breastfeeding requires individualized risk–benefit assessment by a specialist. Nifedipine has been used in pregnancy for specific indications such as hypertension or preterm labor under specialist supervision, but it is not universally considered first-line for all pregnant patients. During breastfeeding, small amounts of nifedipine may pass into breast milk. The decision to use Nicardia Retard 20 in pregnant or breastfeeding women should be made by the treating physician, taking into account the severity of the mother’s condition, alternative options, and available safety data.
