Nise tablet contains nimesulide, an NSAID used for short-term relief of pain and inflammation. Doctors may prescribe it for acute musculoskeletal pain, dental pain, painful periods (dysmenorrhea), and sometimes for pain related to osteoarthritis or soft tissue injuries when other safer painkillers are not suitable or effective. It is not intended for long-term use and should only be taken under medical supervision.
Nise tablet works by inhibiting cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes and reducing the formation of prostaglandins, which are chemicals that promote pain, inflammation, and fever. By lowering prostaglandin levels, Nise helps decrease pain and swelling. It may also have some additional actions on inflammatory mediators and free radicals, but its main effect is through prostaglandin inhibition, similar to other NSAIDs.
Nise tablet can be harmful to the liver in some people. Nimesulide has been associated with liver injury ranging from mild elevation of liver enzymes to severe hepatitis and, rarely, liver failure. It should not be used in patients with existing liver disease or a history of liver damage related to nimesulide or other drugs. Treatment should be as short as possible, and any symptoms such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe fatigue, nausea, or abdominal pain require immediate medical attention and stopping the medicine. Regular monitoring may be advised if used even for a short period in higher-risk patients.
Nise tablet should be used with great caution in people with kidney problems and is generally avoided in those with moderate to severe kidney impairment. NSAIDs can reduce blood flow to the kidneys and may worsen kidney function, especially in patients who are dehydrated, elderly, or taking other medicines that affect the kidneys. If you have any kidney disease, you must inform your doctor before taking Nise. Your doctor may choose an alternative painkiller or use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time with close monitoring.
Nise tablet is not considered safe during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester. Like other NSAIDs, nimesulide can affect the fetal heart and blood circulation (ductus arteriosus), reduce amniotic fluid, and increase the risk of complications during delivery. In the first and second trimesters, it should only be used if clearly needed and if the potential benefit outweighs the risks, and even then, for the shortest possible duration. Pregnant women or those planning pregnancy should consult their doctor for safer alternatives such as paracetamol.
Nise tablet is generally not recommended during breastfeeding. Nimesulide may pass into breast milk, and there is limited safety data for infants. Because of the potential risk of serious side effects, including liver toxicity, doctors usually advise avoiding Nise while breastfeeding. If pain relief is needed, your doctor will typically recommend safer alternatives. Never start Nise on your own while nursing without explicit medical advice.
Nise tablet can cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and visual disturbances in some people. If you experience any of these symptoms after taking Nise, you should avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or performing tasks that require full alertness. If you feel normal and have no such symptoms, driving may be acceptable, but you should still be cautious, especially when taking the medicine for the first time or in combination with other drugs that can cause drowsiness.
Alcohol should be avoided while taking Nise tablet. Both alcohol and nimesulide can irritate the stomach lining and increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers. In addition, both substances can stress the liver, raising the risk of liver damage. Combining them may significantly increase the chance of serious side effects. If you have consumed alcohol, inform your doctor before taking Nise, and do not drink during the course of treatment.
If you have a history of allergy or severe reactions to NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or diclofenac, you should inform your doctor before taking Nise tablet. Symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, swelling of the face or throat, severe skin rash, or a history of aspirin-sensitive asthma are warning signs. People with such histories may also react to nimesulide. In that case, Nise is usually avoided, and your doctor will choose a different class of pain reliever that is safer for you.
Nise tablet is not recommended for long-term or chronic use, even in conditions like arthritis. Due to its potential for serious side effects, particularly liver toxicity and gastrointestinal complications, it is intended only for short-term management of acute pain episodes. For chronic conditions, doctors usually prefer other medicines with a better-established long-term safety profile, along with non-drug measures such as physiotherapy and lifestyle changes. Never continue Nise beyond the duration advised by your doctor.
Before starting Nise tablet, inform your doctor about any history of liver disease, kidney disease, stomach ulcers or bleeding, heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, bleeding disorders, or severe allergies to any medicines. Also share all medicines you are currently taking, including over-the-counter painkillers, blood thinners, blood pressure drugs, diuretics, antidepressants, and herbal or dietary supplements. Mention if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. This information helps your doctor decide whether Nise is appropriate for you and how to use it as safely as possible.
