It helps to relieve eye infections, inflammation, pain and itching.
Oflox D Eye Drops is a combination of two medicines: Ofloxacin (an antibiotic) and Dexamethasone (a steroid). Ofloxacin works by killing the bacteria that cause eye infections. Dexamethasone works by reducing inflammation, redness, and itching.
Common side effects include eye irritation, eye pain, eye itching, and eye dryness.

Oflox D Eye Drops may cause blurred vision in some people. If this happens, avoid driving or operating machinery.
Oflox D Eye Drops contains Dexamethasone, which is a steroid.
The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the infection. Your doctor will tell you how long to use it.
Do not use Oflox D Eye Drops while wearing contact lenses. Remove your lenses before using the medicine and put them back only 15 minutes after using the medicine.
Tell your doctor immediately if you are allergic to Oflox D Eye Drops. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include rash, redness, swelling, and difficulty breathing.
Ciplox Eye Drops, Oflochem Eye Drops are some other eye drops containing Ofloxacin.
Oflox eye drops are used to treat bacterial infections of the eye and surrounding structures caused by susceptible organisms. Typical indications include bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye), blepharitis (infection of the eyelid margins), and certain corneal infections such as bacterial keratitis or corneal ulcers. They may also be used as part of prophylactic therapy around eye surgery when there is a risk of bacterial contamination, as directed by an ophthalmologist. They are not effective for viral, fungal, or purely allergic eye conditions.
Oflox eye drops contain ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Ofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial enzymes called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. By blocking these enzymes, ofloxacin interferes with bacterial cell division and leads to bacterial cell death. This targeted action helps clear susceptible bacterial infections in the eye when the drops are used as prescribed.
No, Oflox eye drops should not be used for every case of red eye. Redness can be caused by viral infections, allergies, dry eye, trauma, glaucoma, or other non‑bacterial conditions for which ofloxacin is not appropriate and may be ineffective. Using antibiotic eye drops without a clear bacterial indication can delay correct diagnosis, expose you to unnecessary side effects, and contribute to antibiotic resistance. A healthcare professional should evaluate the cause of red eye before Oflox eye drops are started.
The duration of treatment with Oflox eye drops depends on the type and severity of the eye infection, your response to therapy, and your doctor’s clinical judgment. Many uncomplicated bacterial conjunctivitis cases are treated for several days, but more serious infections such as corneal ulcers may require longer courses and close monitoring. You should follow the exact duration recommended by your ophthalmologist or prescriber and not stop early, even if symptoms improve, unless advised. Likewise, do not extend the course on your own without medical review.
Common side effects of Oflox eye drops include transient burning or stinging after instillation, mild eye irritation, redness, itching, watery eyes, and temporary blurred vision. Some people may experience a bitter or unpleasant taste in the mouth shortly after application due to drainage through the nasolacrimal duct. Less common but more serious reactions include severe eye pain, marked swelling, persistent redness, significant vision changes, or signs of allergy such as rash, eyelid swelling, or breathing difficulty. If you experience severe or persistent symptoms, stop using the drops and seek medical advice promptly.
In general, contact lenses should not be worn during active eye infection or while using Oflox eye drops, unless your eye specialist specifically advises otherwise. Contact lenses can worsen irritation, reduce oxygen supply to the cornea, and increase the risk of persistent or recurrent infection. Many formulations also contain preservatives that may be absorbed by soft lenses and cause additional irritation. If your doctor allows lens use, lenses should be removed before instilling the drops and reinserted only after an appropriate interval, following professional guidance.
If you miss a scheduled dose of Oflox eye drops, instill it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next planned dose. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra drops to make up for a missed dose, as this does not improve effectiveness and may increase the risk of irritation or other side effects. If you frequently forget doses, discuss strategies with your healthcare provider to improve adherence.
Oflox eye drops may be prescribed for children when a bacterial eye infection is suspected or confirmed and when the prescriber judges that the benefits outweigh potential risks. Safety and efficacy data are more limited in very young children and infants, so dosing and duration should be determined only by a pediatric ophthalmologist or qualified clinician. Caregivers should follow the prescribed regimen carefully, avoid contamination of the dropper, and monitor the child for any signs of irritation, allergy, or worsening symptoms, seeking medical advice if concerns arise.
Before applying Oflox eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops without touching the dropper tip to the eye, eyelids, or any surface. After instillation, you may gently close your eyes and, if advised, apply light pressure to the inner corner of the eye near the nose for a short period to reduce systemic absorption. Do not share your eye drops with others, and keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Discard the product after the recommended in‑use period stated in the package insert.
Oflox eye drops can be used alongside other ophthalmic medications when prescribed as part of a treatment plan. To minimize dilution or washout, different eye drops are usually spaced by a few minutes between applications; ointments are typically applied last. While significant systemic drug interactions are unlikely due to minimal systemic absorption from topical use, local interactions such as altered pH or preservative effects may influence tolerability. Always inform your doctor about all eye drops, ointments, or systemic medicines you are using so that the dosing schedule can be appropriately arranged.
If your symptoms do not improve, worsen, or new symptoms such as severe pain, marked swelling, or vision changes develop while using Oflox eye drops, you should contact your ophthalmologist or healthcare provider promptly. Lack of improvement may indicate that the causative organism is not susceptible to ofloxacin, that the condition is non‑bacterial (for example, viral or allergic), or that a complication such as corneal involvement has developed. Do not increase the frequency or duration of use on your own; further evaluation, including eye examination and possibly laboratory testing, may be required.
