Most side effects are temporary and disappear as your body adapts to OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S. If any side effects persist or cause concern, consult your doctor.

Metabolic and Cardiovascular Risk
Monitor regularlyOleanz is associated with weight gain, increased appetite, and metabolic changes including hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and, in some cases, new‑onset or worsening diabetes mellitus.
The treatment of anxiety with OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S is not an approved indication. OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S has been studied for treatment of anxiety disorders but the results have not been very convincing. However, it can be used along with anxiolytics in anxiety disorders for better results.
No, OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S is not a sleeping pill. It belongs to the atypical antipsychotic class of medicines. It is used to treat schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental illness that causes disturbed or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or inappropriate emotions. OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S also helps with bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder). It is a disease that causes episodes of depression, mania, and other abnormal moods.
OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S may start showing initial improvement within 1-2 week of starting. However, for full benefits it may take about 4-6 weeks. You should continue taking it and consult your doctor in case you feel that OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S is not helping you.
OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S can cause serious side effects which include increased risk of death in elderly people who are confused, have memory loss and have lost touch with reality (dementia-related psychosis). It is important to know that it may increase blood sugar levels in diabetics and also in patients who never had diabetes. Furthermore, it may cause weight gain and high fat levels in the blood which is more common in teenagers.
OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S should be avoided during pregnancy and should only be given if benefits outweigh the risk. Using OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S during last 3 months of pregnancy may cause unwanted symptoms in the unborn baby. These symptoms include shaking, muscle stiffness and/or weakness, sleepiness, agitation, breathing problems, and difficulty in feeding.
You should not stop taking OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S without consulting your doctor. This is because sudden discontinuation of the medicine may cause unpleasant side effects which include sweating, unable to sleep, tremor, anxiety or nausea, and vomiting. To avoid such effects, your doctor will reduce the dose gradually before stopping the treatment.
Yes, smoking interferes with working of OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S causing an increase in its metabolism. One should avoid alcohol while taking OLEANZ 5MG TABLET 10'S since it may cause more drowsiness. However, if you are a smoker then your doctor may increase your dose depending on your response to treatment.
Oleanz is a brand of the atypical antipsychotic medicine olanzapine. It is used primarily to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Olanzapine works by modulating dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain, which helps reduce psychotic symptoms and stabilize mood.
Oleanz is commonly prescribed for schizophrenia, including acute episodes and maintenance treatment, and for bipolar disorder, particularly acute manic or mixed episodes and long‑term mood stabilization. In some clinical settings, it may be used as part of combination therapy for treatment‑resistant depression, but such use must follow local guidelines and specialist advice.
Oleanz (olanzapine) primarily blocks dopamine D2 and serotonin 5‑HT2A receptors, and also has affinity for several other neurotransmitter receptors. By reducing excessive dopaminergic and serotonergic activity in certain brain pathways, it helps control hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking, and mood instability, while generally causing fewer movement‑related side effects than many older antipsychotics.
Some patients may notice improvement in agitation, sleep, or appetite within a few days, but meaningful improvement in psychotic or mood symptoms usually takes 1 to 2 weeks, and full therapeutic benefit may require several weeks or longer. Treatment should not be judged ineffective too early, and any decision to adjust or discontinue therapy should be made by the treating psychiatrist.
Common side effects include weight gain, increased appetite, drowsiness or sedation, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and swelling of the hands or feet. Some patients may experience restlessness, mild tremor, or changes in liver enzymes, blood glucose, or lipid levels. Most side effects are dose‑related and may improve with time or dose adjustment, but they should always be discussed with a clinician.
Yes. Olanzapine is associated with a significant risk of weight gain and metabolic disturbances, including increased blood glucose, insulin resistance, and elevated cholesterol and triglycerides. Regular monitoring of body weight, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, and lipid profile is recommended. Lifestyle measures such as diet modification and physical activity should be encouraged, and additional treatment may be needed if metabolic abnormalities develop.
The safety of Oleanz in pregnancy is not fully established. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus, and this decision must be made by a specialist after careful risk–benefit assessment. Exposure in the third trimester may be associated with neonatal symptoms such as agitation, abnormal muscle tone, feeding difficulties, or respiratory problems. Pregnant patients or those planning pregnancy should discuss options with their psychiatrist and obstetrician.
Olanzapine is excreted into breast milk in small amounts. Some guidelines allow cautious use during breastfeeding with close monitoring of the infant for excessive sleepiness, poor feeding, irritability, or unusual movements. However, the decision to breastfeed while taking Oleanz should be individualized, weighing the benefits of breastfeeding and maternal treatment against potential risks to the infant, and should be made in consultation with both psychiatrist and pediatrician.
Yes. Oleanz can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired concentration, especially at the start of treatment or after dose changes. Patients should avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or performing tasks that require full mental alertness until they know how the medicine affects them and their clinician confirms it is safe to do so.
Alcohol should generally be avoided while taking Oleanz. Both alcohol and olanzapine depress the central nervous system, and their combined use can increase drowsiness, dizziness, impaired judgment, and risk of accidents. Alcohol may also worsen psychiatric symptoms and interfere with treatment adherence and metabolic control.
If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as the patient remembers, unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. In that case, the missed dose should be skipped and the regular dosing schedule resumed. Two doses should not be taken at the same time to make up for a missed dose. Frequent missed doses should be discussed with the treating clinician to address adherence issues.
Abrupt discontinuation of Oleanz is not recommended unless there is a serious adverse reaction requiring immediate cessation. Sudden stopping may lead to withdrawal‑like symptoms such as insomnia, nausea, anxiety, or return or worsening of psychotic or mood symptoms. In most cases, the dose should be tapered gradually under medical supervision, with close monitoring for relapse.
Should display more medical verities.
