Monitor regularlyOlimelt 2.5 can cause weight gain and changes in blood glucose and lipid levels, increasing the risk of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease over time.
The treatment of anxiety with OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S is not an approved indication. OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S has been studied for treatment of anxiety disorders but the results have not been very convincing. However, it can be used along with anxiolytics in anxiety disorders for better results.
No, OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S is not a sleeping pill. It belongs to the atypical antipsychotic class of medicines. It is used to treat schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental illness that causes disturbed or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life, and strong or inappropriate emotions. OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S also helps with bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder). It is a disease that causes episodes of depression, mania, and other abnormal moods.
OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S may start showing initial improvement within 1-2 week of starting. However, for full benefits it may take about 4-6 weeks. You should continue taking it and consult your doctor in case you feel that OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S is not helping you.
OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S can cause serious side effects which include increased risk of death in elderly people who are confused, have memory loss and have lost touch with reality (dementia-related psychosis). It is important to know that it may increase blood sugar levels in diabetics and also in patients who never had diabetes. Furthermore, it may cause weight gain and high fat levels in the blood which is more common in teenagers.
OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S should be avoided during pregnancy and should only be given if benefits outweigh the risk. Using OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S during last 3 months of pregnancy may cause unwanted symptoms in the unborn baby. These symptoms include shaking, muscle stiffness and/or weakness, sleepiness, agitation, breathing problems, and difficulty in feeding.
You should not stop taking OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S without consulting your doctor. This is because sudden discontinuation of the medicine may cause unpleasant side effects which include sweating, unable to sleep, tremor, anxiety or nausea, and vomiting. To avoid such effects, your doctor will reduce the dose gradually before stopping the treatment.
Yes, smoking interferes with working of OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S causing an increase in its metabolism. One should avoid alcohol while taking OLIMELT 2.5MG TABLET 10'S since it may cause more drowsiness. However, if you are a smoker then your doctor may increase your dose depending on your response to treatment.
Olimelt 2.5 contains olanzapine 2.5 mg, an atypical antipsychotic. It is primarily used to treat schizophrenia and moderate to severe manic episodes associated with bipolar disorder. In some patients, it may also be used as part of maintenance therapy to help prevent recurrence of mood episodes, as decided by a psychiatrist.
Olimelt 2.5 works by blocking certain receptors for dopamine and serotonin in the brain. This modulation of neurotransmitters helps reduce psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions, and stabilises mood in conditions like bipolar disorder. Its effects develop gradually over days to weeks.
You should take Olimelt 2.5 exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water and try to take it at the same time each day. Do not change the dose, take extra tablets, or stop the medicine on your own, even if you feel better, without consulting your doctor.
Some improvement in sleep, agitation, or appetite may be noticed within a few days, but core symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, or severe mood swings may take several weeks to improve. Full therapeutic benefit can take longer. It is important to continue taking the medicine as directed and attend follow‑up appointments so your doctor can assess response and tolerability.
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, increased appetite, dry mouth, constipation, and swelling of the hands or feet. Some people may experience increased blood sugar or cholesterol levels. These effects should be discussed with your doctor, especially if they are persistent or troublesome.
Yes. Olanzapine is associated with increased appetite, weight gain, and metabolic changes such as raised blood glucose and lipid levels. This can increase the risk of developing diabetes or worsening existing diabetes. Regular monitoring of weight, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, and lipid profile is recommended, and lifestyle measures such as healthy diet and physical activity are important.
Alcohol is generally not recommended while taking Olimelt 2.5. Both alcohol and olanzapine depress the central nervous system and can increase drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired judgment, raising the risk of falls, accidents, or other adverse events. You should discuss alcohol use with your doctor before starting treatment.
Olimelt 2.5 can cause drowsiness, dizziness, and reduced alertness, especially when treatment is started or the dose is changed. You should avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require full concentration until you know how the medicine affects you. If you continue to feel sedated or dizzy, inform your doctor.
Use of Olimelt 2.5 during pregnancy or breastfeeding requires careful risk–benefit assessment by a specialist. Antipsychotics, including olanzapine, may be associated with withdrawal or extrapyramidal symptoms in newborns if used in late pregnancy. Olanzapine passes into breast milk in small amounts. The decision to use it in pregnancy or while breastfeeding should be made jointly by you and your doctor, considering the severity of your illness and alternative options.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses at once to make up for a missed dose. If you frequently forget doses, speak with your doctor or pharmacist about strategies to improve adherence.
You should not stop Olimelt 2.5 suddenly without medical advice, even if you feel well. Abrupt discontinuation can lead to relapse of symptoms and, in some cases, withdrawal‑like effects such as insomnia, anxiety, or nausea. Your doctor will advise if and when the medicine can be reduced or stopped, usually by gradually tapering the dose.
Olimelt 2.5 should generally be avoided in people with known hypersensitivity to olanzapine or any component of the formulation. Caution or dose adjustment is required in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment, a history of seizures, narrow‑angle glaucoma, significant cardiovascular disease, or those at high risk of stroke. Elderly patients with dementia‑related psychosis have an increased risk of cerebrovascular events and mortality with antipsychotics and require very careful specialist assessment.
