Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Allergies
Contraindicated in known allergyDo not take Ondem tablet if you have a known allergy to ondansetron, any other 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, or any of the tablet’s ingredients.
ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S starts working within half an hour to 2 hours. It dissolves rapidly into the bloodstream and starts showing its effect.
The most common side effects of ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S are constipation, diarrhea, fatigue and headache. However, these are usually not bothersome and resolve on their own after some time. Consult your doctor if these persist or worry you.
ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S should be taken with a full glass of water, with or without food. It should be used exactly as per the dose and duration advised by the doctor. Usually, the first dose of ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S is taken before the start of your surgery, chemotherapy or radiation treatment.
No, ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S is an antiemetic and not a steroid. ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S is a selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It is prescribed for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting which is commonly observed after surgery or due to cancer chemotherapy.
No, ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S does not work for seasickness. This is because ONDEM MD 4MG TABLET 10'S has very little effect on the nausea associated with motion sickness.
Ondem tablet (ondansetron) is mainly used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. Doctors may also prescribe it for severe vomiting from other causes, such as certain infections or medical conditions, but this should always be under medical supervision. It helps control the symptom of vomiting but does not treat the underlying disease.
Ondem tablet contains ondansetron, which blocks serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the brain and the gastrointestinal tract. Serotonin can trigger the vomiting reflex when released in large amounts, such as during chemotherapy or after surgery. By blocking these receptors, Ondem reduces the sensation of nausea and the urge to vomit.
Use of Ondem tablet during pregnancy should only be on the advice of a doctor. Ondansetron is sometimes used for severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy when other options are not effective, but safety data are still being evaluated, and there may be potential risks. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and possible risks for you and your baby before prescribing it. Never start or continue Ondem in pregnancy without medical guidance.
Ondansetron may pass into breast milk in small amounts. The decision to use Ondem tablet while breastfeeding should be made by your doctor after assessing the severity of your symptoms and the potential risk to the infant. In some cases, short-term use may be considered, but you should watch the baby for unusual sleepiness, feeding difficulties, or irritability and report any concerns to a healthcare professional.
Ondem tablet can sometimes cause side effects such as dizziness, tiredness, or visual disturbances in some people. If you feel dizzy, light-headed, unusually tired, or have any visual changes after taking it, you should avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require full alertness. Only drive or operate machines if you feel completely well and alert.
It is generally advisable to avoid or limit alcohol while taking Ondem tablet. Alcohol can increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and impaired concentration, and it may worsen dehydration if you are already vomiting. Combining alcohol with Ondem may also make it harder to judge how well you are feeling, so it is safer to avoid alcohol during treatment.
Ondem tablet is processed mainly by the liver, so people with liver disease need special caution. In moderate to severe liver impairment, the total amount of ondansetron allowed in a day is usually reduced, and the doctor may adjust the dosing schedule or choose an alternative medicine. If you have any history of hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver, or abnormal liver tests, inform your doctor before using Ondem so that appropriate monitoring and dose adjustments can be made.
Ondansetron is less dependent on the kidneys for removal compared with some other medicines, so mild to moderate kidney disease usually does not require major dose changes. However, in advanced kidney failure or when you are on dialysis, your doctor will still review all your medicines to avoid interactions and side effects. Always inform your nephrologist or treating doctor before starting Ondem tablet.
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to ondansetron, other 5-HT3 antagonists (such as granisetron or palonosetron), or any ingredient in Ondem tablet, you should not take it. Signs of allergy can include rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe dizziness. If any of these occur after taking Ondem, seek emergency medical help immediately. Always tell your doctor about all past drug allergies before starting this medicine.
Ondem tablet is generally intended for nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, or significant medical conditions, and not for routine motion sickness or mild, short-lived nausea. For simple motion sickness, other measures and medicines are usually preferred. Do not self-medicate with Ondem for minor symptoms or use it frequently without medical advice, as unnecessary use may expose you to side effects and mask serious underlying problems.
Ondem tablet can, in some cases, affect the electrical activity of the heart and prolong the QT interval, especially at higher doses or in people with existing heart disease. If you have a history of heart rhythm problems, heart failure, recent heart attack, or if you are taking other medicines that can prolong the QT interval, your doctor will assess the risks carefully. You may need ECG monitoring and correction of low potassium or magnesium levels before and during treatment.
