Using a clean fingertip or cotton swab, gently apply a small amount to the affected area up to 3–4 times a day, or as directed by your doctor. Avoid eating or drinking for about 30 minutes afterwards so it can work. Do not swallow the gel.

Use in young children only on a doctor's advice. Because it contains a salicylate, it has been linked to a rare but serious condition (Reye's syndrome) in children, so it should not be used routinely for teething or children's mouth ulcers without medical guidance.

Use it only as needed for symptom relief and do not exceed the recommended number of applications. If your mouth ulcer or soreness does not improve within about a week, keeps coming back, or is severe, see your doctor to check the cause.

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to aspirin or other salicylates/NSAIDs, have a stomach ulcer, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid using it together with other salicylate-containing products.

The numbing effect is meant to be local and temporary. If numbness spreads and makes swallowing difficult, avoid eating or drinking until it wears off (to prevent choking or biting your cheek), and contact your doctor if it is troublesome.
