Propygenta NF Cream is used for short-term treatment of certain inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema or dermatitis, when these are associated with or at risk of bacterial infection. It combines an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid with an antibiotic to reduce redness, swelling, itching, and to control susceptible bacterial growth on the skin. It should only be used under medical supervision and is not intended for routine cosmetic use.
Propygenta NF Cream usually contains a topical corticosteroid that suppresses local inflammatory responses in the skin, thereby reducing redness, swelling, and itching. It also contains an antibiotic, commonly gentamicin or a similar agent, which interferes with bacterial protein synthesis and helps eliminate susceptible bacteria at the application site. The combined effect is relief of inflammatory symptoms while treating or preventing secondary bacterial infection.
Use Propygenta NF Cream exactly as directed by your doctor. Typically, the affected area should be gently cleaned and dried before application. A thin layer of the cream is then applied to the affected skin and rubbed in gently. Hands should be washed after use unless they are the area being treated. Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings or bandages unless your doctor has specifically advised this, as occlusion can increase absorption and side effects.
Propygenta NF Cream may be used on the face only if specifically prescribed by a doctor, and usually for a very limited duration. Facial skin is thin and more prone to steroid-related side effects such as skin thinning, visible blood vessels, or perioral dermatitis. Never apply this cream near the eyes, on the eyelids, or on mucous membranes unless your doctor has clearly instructed you to do so.
No, Propygenta NF Cream is not an antifungal preparation. It is primarily a combination of a corticosteroid and an antibiotic for bacterial infections associated with inflammatory skin conditions. It is not appropriate as sole therapy for fungal infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, or candidiasis. Using it on undiagnosed rashes may temporarily mask symptoms while allowing a fungal infection to worsen, so proper medical evaluation is important.
Common side effects include mild burning, stinging, itching, dryness, or redness at the application site, especially when treatment is initiated. With prolonged or inappropriate use, there may be a risk of skin thinning, stretch marks, easy bruising, or changes in skin color. Allergic reactions to any component of the cream can occur and may present as worsening rash, swelling, or blistering. If you experience severe irritation or signs of allergy, stop using the cream and seek medical advice promptly.
Use of Propygenta NF Cream during pregnancy should be based on a clear medical need and under the guidance of a doctor. When topical corticosteroids and antibiotics are used in pregnancy, they are generally recommended in the lowest effective strength, on the smallest possible area, and for the shortest duration. You should inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or suspect you may be pregnant before starting this medicine.
If you are breastfeeding, Propygenta NF Cream should be used only after consulting your doctor. When applied to limited areas of intact skin, systemic absorption is usually low, but caution is still advised. The cream should not be applied directly to the breasts or nipple area to avoid accidental ingestion by the infant. If treatment of the breast area is absolutely necessary, your doctor will provide specific instructions, including thoroughly cleaning the area before each feed.
Propygenta NF Cream is generally not intended for use on large open wounds, deep cuts, or extensively broken skin unless specifically directed by a doctor. Application on significantly damaged skin can increase systemic absorption of the corticosteroid and antibiotic, potentially raising the risk of side effects. Minor superficial lesions around an inflamed area may be treated if your doctor has assessed the risk–benefit balance and provided clear instructions.
If you miss a scheduled application, apply Propygenta NF Cream as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next application. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply extra cream or use it more frequently to make up for a missed application, as this may increase the risk of local and systemic side effects without improving effectiveness.
Propygenta NF Cream may be prescribed for children, but only under close medical supervision. Children, especially infants and young children, have a higher surface-area-to-body-weight ratio and thinner skin, which can lead to greater absorption of topical corticosteroids and antibiotics. This increases the risk of systemic side effects. If prescribed for a child, it should be used exactly as directed, for the shortest possible duration, and not under occlusive dressings unless specifically advised.
Avoid using Propygenta NF Cream on large body areas, on the face or skin folds for prolonged periods, or under tight dressings unless instructed by your doctor. Do not use it for conditions that have not been evaluated by a healthcare professional, and do not share the cream with others. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Inform your doctor about any history of allergies to corticosteroids, aminoglycoside antibiotics such as gentamicin, or other topical products. If your symptoms do not improve or worsen after a few days of appropriate use, seek medical review.
