PROPYSALIC NF OINTMENT is used to treat skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and other dry, scaly skin problems. It helps to reduce inflammation, itching, and scaling.
Apply a thin layer to the affected area as directed by your doctor. Gently rub it in. Wash your hands after application, unless you are treating your hands.
Common side effects may include burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness at the application site. If these persist or worsen, contact your doctor.
Use PROPYSALIC NF OINTMENT on the face only if directed by your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, especially other topical products. Avoid prolonged use or application over large areas of skin.
Store at room temperature, away from heat and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
Consult your doctor before using PROPYSALIC NF OINTMENT if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center.
Use PROPYSALIC NF OINTMENT for the duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it for longer than recommended.
PROPYSALIC NF OINTMENT is not typically used for fungal infections. It is primarily for inflammatory skin conditions. Consult your doctor for appropriate treatment.
Discuss generic alternatives with your doctor or pharmacist. The availability of generic options may vary.
It's best to consult your doctor before using other skincare products alongside PROPYSALIC NF OINTMENT to avoid potential interactions or irritation.
Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter medications, herbal supplements, and other topical treatments, to avoid potential drug interactions.
PROPYSALIC NF OINTMENT typically contains Clobetasol Propionate and Salicylic Acid. The exact composition may vary by manufacturer, so refer to the product label for details.
Propysalic NF Ointment is a topical combination medicine containing clobetasol propionate, a very potent corticosteroid, and salicylic acid, a keratolytic agent. It is used for short-term treatment of steroid-responsive skin conditions that are thickened and scaly, such as psoriasis, chronic eczema, lichen simplex chronicus, and other hyperkeratotic dermatoses. The corticosteroid component reduces inflammation, redness, and itching, while salicylic acid helps remove scales and enhances penetration of the steroid into the skin.
Clobetasol propionate acts by suppressing local inflammatory and immune responses in the skin, leading to reduced redness, swelling, and itching. It constricts small blood vessels and decreases the release of inflammatory mediators. Salicylic acid is keratolytic; it breaks down the intercellular cement in the outer layer of the skin, softening and shedding scales and plaques. By removing excess keratin, salicylic acid improves the penetration and effectiveness of clobetasol in thickened lesions.
Propysalic NF Ointment should be applied only as directed by a healthcare professional. Typically, the affected area is gently cleansed and dried, and then a thin film of the ointment is applied to the lesion and rubbed in gently. It is for external use only and should not be used on large areas, under occlusive dressings, or for prolonged periods unless specifically advised. Hands should be washed after application, unless the hands themselves are being treated. The exact frequency and duration of use must be determined by the prescriber; patients should not adjust these on their own.
Use of Propysalic NF Ointment on the face, around the eyes, or on other thin or sensitive skin areas is generally discouraged because clobetasol is a very potent steroid and facial skin is more prone to side effects such as thinning, telangiectasia, and perioral dermatitis. It must not be applied in the eyes or on eyelids unless a specialist explicitly recommends it, as this may increase the risk of glaucoma, cataract, or irritation. If accidental contact with the eyes occurs, the eyes should be rinsed thoroughly with clean water and medical advice sought if irritation persists.
Propysalic NF Ointment is not intended for long-term continuous use. Prolonged or repeated use, especially over large body areas or under occlusion, increases the risk of local side effects such as skin atrophy, stretch marks, and pigment changes, as well as systemic absorption leading to hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis suppression and other corticosteroid-related effects. Treatment courses are usually kept as short as possible, and therapy may be tapered or switched to a less potent agent once control is achieved. Any need for extended use should be regularly reviewed by a dermatologist.
Use of Propysalic NF Ointment in children should be very cautious and only under close medical supervision, because children are more susceptible to systemic absorption of potent topical steroids and salicylic acid. This can lead to growth suppression, adrenal suppression, and other systemic adverse effects. If prescribed for a child, it is usually for a very limited area and for the shortest possible duration, with regular follow-up. Caregivers should strictly follow the prescriber’s instructions and avoid using the ointment on the child without medical advice.
Common local side effects include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, peeling, or redness at the application site, particularly when treatment is initiated. With inappropriate or prolonged use, more serious local effects such as skin thinning, stretch marks, easy bruising, visible small blood vessels, acneiform eruptions, increased hair growth, and changes in skin color may occur. Systemic effects such as adrenal suppression, Cushingoid features, or salicylate toxicity are rare but can occur if large areas are treated, if occlusive dressings are used, or if the product is used for extended periods. Any unusual or severe symptoms should prompt medical review.
Data on the use of clobetasol–salicylic acid combinations in pregnancy and breastfeeding are limited. Potent topical steroids are generally used with caution in pregnancy, only if the expected benefit justifies the potential risk, and usually on small areas for short durations. During breastfeeding, the ointment should not be applied to the breasts or areas that may come into direct contact with the infant. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should consult their healthcare provider before using Propysalic NF Ointment, and any use should be closely supervised.
Propysalic NF Ointment is applied to the skin and is not expected to have direct effects on the central nervous system, alertness, or coordination. Therefore, it is not generally associated with impairment of driving ability or interactions with moderate alcohol consumption when used as directed. However, excessive use leading to significant systemic absorption of clobetasol or salicylic acid could theoretically cause systemic effects. Patients with any systemic symptoms such as dizziness or malaise should avoid driving and seek medical advice.
If a scheduled application is missed, it can be applied as soon as remembered, unless it is almost time for the next application; in that case, the missed application can be skipped and the regular schedule resumed. Extra amounts should not be applied to make up for a missed dose. Occasional slight overapplication is unlikely to cause serious harm, but repeated excessive use, use on large areas, or prolonged use beyond medical advice can increase the risk of side effects. If you suspect significant overuse or experience symptoms such as unusual fatigue, weight gain, or worsening skin problems, contact your healthcare provider.
