Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

General precautions and monitoring
Medical supervision advisedRegular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and serum electrolytes, particularly potassium, is recommended during treatment with Ramistar 2.5.
RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S belongs to the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor group of drugs. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels, making it easier for the blood to pass through the vessels. As a result of this, the heart does not have to work more to push the blood. Since the workload on the heart is reduced, it is beneficial in heart failure. Additionally, it is also used to lower blood pressure and prevent stroke.
RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S may increase potassium levels in the blood, especially if you have uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, kidney problems, and dehydration. Potassium levels may also increase in patients using potassium salts or medicines which increase potassium levels or are aged more than 70 years of age. If you have any of these conditions and are using RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S, you need to be careful and get regular blood tests done to monitor potassium levels.
RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S takes a few hours to reduce high blood pressure but since there are no symptoms, you will not notice any difference. It takes a few weeks for the blood pressure to get fully controlled. Do not stop taking the medicine. Keep taking it even if you feel better or if your blood pressure is normalized.
RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S commonly is responsible for dry cough which can be persistent and is not relieved by any medicine. Talk to your doctor if it bothers you or you have trouble sleeping, as another medicine may be better. Even if you stop taking RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S, the cough may take a few days to a month to go away.
Yes, you may feel lightheaded, dizzy, your pulse may become slow and you may even faint. You should take the help of a relative or friend for an emergency or seek immediate medical support.
Inform your doctor that you are taking RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S. RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S can reduce your blood pressure when it is used with a general anesthetic. Your doctor may advise you to stop taking it 24 hours before surgery.
There is no evidence that RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S has any effect on fertility in both men and women. However, if you are planning to get pregnant, talk to your doctor first because RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S is not recommended in pregnancy.
Yes, RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S may have some effect on antidiabetic medicines and insulin and may lower your blood sugar levels. Therefore, you need to check your blood sugar levels regularly.
No, you should not stop RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S suddenly as this may cause a sudden increase in your blood pressure which may be harmful to you. In addition to this, RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S can very rarely decrease your white blood cell count which is important to fight infections in your body. Consult your doctor and get a blood test done. If your white cell count is decreased, it could be due to RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S. Ask your doctor for alternative medicine for blood pressure. You can continue taking RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S if your investigations are normal.
Yes, RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S is safe and works best if taken for a long time. But, taking RAMISTAR 2.5MG TABLET 15'S for a long time can sometimes affect the working of your kidneys. To keep track of this, your doctor will get regular blood tests done and check how well your kidneys are working.
Ramistar 2.5 contains ramipril 2.5 mg, an ACE inhibitor used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also prescribed to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death in certain high-risk patients, such as those with established heart or vascular disease or diabetes with additional risk factors. In some cases, it is used to help protect kidney function, particularly in patients with diabetes or protein in the urine, as advised by a doctor.
Ramistar 2.5 works by inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which is responsible for converting angiotensin I into angiotensin II. Angiotensin II normally causes blood vessels to constrict and stimulates the release of aldosterone, which promotes salt and water retention. By blocking this pathway, ramipril causes blood vessels to relax and widen, lowers blood pressure, reduces fluid retention, and decreases the workload on the heart. It also lowers pressure within the kidneys’ filtering units, which can help slow certain types of kidney damage.
Ramistar 2.5 should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken once daily, with or without food, and should be swallowed with water at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels. Do not change the timing, frequency, or number of tablets without consulting your doctor. If you are unsure about your individual dosing schedule, ask your prescribing physician or pharmacist for clarification rather than adjusting it yourself.
If you miss a dose of Ramistar 2.5, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next one at the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose, as this may increase the risk of low blood pressure or other side effects. If you frequently forget doses, discuss reminder strategies or alternative options with your doctor or pharmacist.
Common side effects of Ramistar 2.5 include dry, persistent cough, dizziness or light-headedness (especially when standing up quickly), headache, fatigue, and a general feeling of weakness. Some people may experience nausea, stomach discomfort, or mild skin rash. These effects are often mild and may improve as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, if side effects are troublesome, persistent, or worsening, you should inform your doctor for assessment and possible adjustment of therapy.
Serious but less common side effects include angioedema (sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing), severe dizziness or fainting due to very low blood pressure, marked reduction in urine output, sudden weight gain due to fluid retention, or signs of high potassium such as muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, or palpitations. If you experience swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or collapse, seek emergency medical attention immediately and do not take further doses until reviewed by a doctor.
Ramistar 2.5 (ramipril) is not recommended during pregnancy and is contraindicated, particularly in the second and third trimesters, because ACE inhibitors can cause serious harm to the developing fetus, including kidney damage, reduced amniotic fluid, skull abnormalities, and even fetal death. If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, you must inform your doctor promptly. Your doctor will usually switch you to an alternative blood pressure medicine that is considered safer in pregnancy.
Ramipril and its active metabolites can pass into breast milk in small amounts. The decision to use Ramistar 2.5 while breastfeeding depends on the clinical situation, the age of the infant, and the availability of alternative medicines. In some cases, especially with older infants, a doctor may consider it acceptable with careful monitoring, while in others an alternative antihypertensive with more established safety data in breastfeeding may be preferred. Always discuss breastfeeding with your doctor before starting or continuing Ramistar 2.5.
Alcohol can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect of Ramistar 2.5 and may increase the risk of dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting, particularly when standing up quickly. If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation and be aware of how you feel, especially when you first start treatment or after a dose change. People with certain medical conditions, such as liver disease, heart failure, or a history of alcohol misuse, should discuss alcohol intake with their doctor while on this medicine.
Ramistar 2.5 should generally not be used in people with a known allergy or previous angioedema related to ramipril or any other ACE inhibitor, in those with hereditary or idiopathic angioedema, and in pregnancy. It is usually avoided or used with great caution in patients with significant narrowing of the kidney arteries (bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis in a single functioning kidney), severe kidney impairment without specialist supervision, or very low baseline blood pressure. It may also be unsuitable in certain types of aortic valve narrowing or obstructive heart disease. Your doctor will evaluate your full medical history before prescribing it.
Yes, Ramistar 2.5 can interact with several medicines. Drugs that may increase potassium levels, such as potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or certain salt substitutes, can raise the risk of high potassium when combined with ramipril. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including some painkillers, may reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect and increase the risk of kidney problems, especially in dehydrated or elderly patients. Other blood pressure medicines, diuretics, and some antidepressants can enhance the hypotensive effect. Lithium levels can increase when used with ACE inhibitors. Always provide your doctor and pharmacist with a complete list of your prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, and herbal supplements before starting Ramistar 2.5.
