The antihistamine in Relent Plus Syrup 60ml can help with allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
Relent syrup is typically used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis and common cold in children, such as runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, and watery eyes. It usually contains an antihistamine (such as levocetirizine) to reduce allergy symptoms and a decongestant (such as phenylephrine) to relieve nasal blockage. It does not treat the underlying viral infection but helps improve comfort while the illness runs its course.
The exact dosage for a 6 year old cannot be stated safely without knowing the precise formulation, strength per millilitre, and the child’s weight and medical history. Different Relent products and markets may have different concentrations. You must follow the dose written on your child’s prescription or the dosing instructions on the specific product label as advised by a pediatrician. Do not estimate the dose or use another child’s prescription.
Relent syrup is a combination medicine, and many such products are recommended for use in children only under medical supervision. It is not advisable to start Relent syrup in a 6 year old without consulting a pediatrician, especially if the child has asthma, chronic cough, heart disease, or is taking other medicines. A doctor can confirm whether Relent is appropriate and provide an age‑ and weight‑appropriate dose.
Relent syrup should be given exactly as prescribed by the doctor or as indicated on the product label for the child’s age and weight. Shake the bottle well before each use and measure the dose with the supplied measuring cup, dropper, or oral syringe. Administer it by mouth, usually with or without food as directed. Do not use household teaspoons, as they are inaccurate and may cause under‑ or overdosing.
The dosing frequency (for example, every 8 or 12 hours) depends on the specific formulation and the doctor’s instructions. Because different Relent products may have different strengths and recommended intervals, you must follow the schedule written on the prescription label or advised by the pediatrician. Never increase the frequency on your own, and do not exceed the maximum daily dose stated in the product information.
Possible side effects in children may include drowsiness, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, nausea, stomach discomfort, restlessness, or difficulty sleeping. The decongestant component can occasionally cause increased heart rate, palpitations, or a rise in blood pressure. Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, or breathing difficulty can occur. If you notice severe drowsiness, agitation, chest pain, breathing problems, or signs of allergy, stop the medicine and seek urgent medical care.
Relent syrup does not usually contain paracetamol, so it is often possible to use paracetamol separately for fever or pain in a 6 year old, provided each medicine is dosed correctly and there are no contraindications. However, you should confirm this with a pediatrician or pharmacist, especially if your child is taking other cough and cold preparations, to avoid accidental duplication of ingredients or excessive total dosing.
If you suspect that your child has received more than the prescribed dose, contact a doctor, local poison control centre, or emergency services immediately, even if the child appears well. Overdose of antihistamines or decongestants can cause excessive sleepiness, agitation, tremors, abnormal heart rhythm, high blood pressure, or seizures. Do not wait for symptoms to appear. Keep the medicine bottle with you so that healthcare professionals can see the exact product and strength.
Relent syrup is generally intended for short‑term use to relieve acute symptoms of allergy or common cold. Prolonged or repeated use in a 6 year old should only occur under close medical supervision. If symptoms persist beyond a few days, worsen, or recur frequently, the child should be reassessed by a pediatrician to look for underlying conditions such as persistent allergy, sinusitis, or asthma, and to consider alternative or maintenance therapies.
Relent syrup should be avoided if the child has a known allergy to any of its ingredients, has previously developed a severe reaction to similar antihistamines or decongestants, or has certain medical conditions such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, serious heart disease, narrow‑angle glaucoma, severe kidney impairment, or specific thyroid disorders, unless a specialist explicitly recommends it. It should also be avoided if the child is taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants or has taken them in the last 14 days. Always inform the doctor about the child’s full medical history and current medicines before starting Relent.
If Relent syrup is not suitable for your 6 year old, a pediatrician may suggest alternatives such as a single‑ingredient antihistamine syrup, saline nasal drops or sprays, steam inhalation under supervision, or other age‑appropriate decongestant or anti‑allergic medicines. Non‑drug measures, including adequate hydration, use of a cool‑mist humidifier, and keeping the child away from smoke and strong irritants, can also help. The choice of alternative depends on the child’s symptoms, diagnosis, and overall health.
