About RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML
- RESTASIS® (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) 0.05% is a prescription eye drop used to increase tear production in people whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (dry eye). RESTASIS® is not for use in people who are using contact lenses. It is also not recommended to use RESTASIS® while wearing contact lenses.
- The active ingredient in RESTASIS® is cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant. It works by reducing inflammation in the eye, which allows for increased tear production. The inactive ingredients in RESTASIS® include castor oil, glycerin, polysorbate 80, carbomer 1342, purified water, and sodium hydroxide to adjust pH.
- To use RESTASIS®, invert the single-use vial a few times to ensure the emulsion is properly mixed. Then, instill one drop into each eye twice a day, approximately 12 hours apart. Discard the vial immediately after use. It is important to use RESTASIS® exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use more or less of it, and do not use it more often than prescribed.
- Common side effects of RESTASIS® include eye burning, eye pain, blurred vision, and foreign body sensation. If you experience any of these side effects, or if you experience any other side effects that are bothersome, talk to your doctor.
- RESTASIS® is a sterile, preservative-free emulsion supplied in single-use vials. Each vial contains 0.4 mL of the emulsion. It's crucial to store RESTASIS® at room temperature and protect it from light.

How RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML Works
- RESTASIS® (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) 0.05% is an eye drop used to increase tear production in patients whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye). RESTASIS® works differently than artificial tears, which only provide temporary lubrication. RESTASIS® is thought to work by helping to reduce inflammation on the surface of the eye, which allows the eyes to produce more natural tears. The active ingredient in RESTASIS® is cyclosporine, an immunomodulator. In simpler terms, it's a medicine that helps to regulate the immune system's response.
- Here's a more detailed breakdown of how RESTASIS® works: Dry eye is often associated with inflammation of the lacrimal glands (the glands that produce tears) and the ocular surface. This inflammation can be caused by various factors, including autoimmune diseases, hormonal changes, environmental factors, and aging. Cyclosporine, the active ingredient in RESTASIS®, acts as a partial immunomodulator. When RESTASIS® is applied to the eye, cyclosporine partially suppresses the immune system's response, specifically targeting the T-cells that are involved in inflammation. This helps to reduce the inflammation on the surface of the eye and around the lacrimal glands.
- By reducing inflammation, RESTASIS® allows the lacrimal glands to function more effectively and produce more natural tears. This can help to alleviate the symptoms of dry eye, such as burning, stinging, itching, and blurred vision. It's important to note that RESTASIS® is not a quick fix. It typically takes several weeks or even months of consistent use to see a noticeable improvement in tear production and dry eye symptoms. The effects of RESTASIS® are generally sustained as long as the medication is used regularly. If you stop using RESTASIS®, your dry eye symptoms may return.

Dosage of RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML
- The recommended dosage of RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML is one drop in each eye, twice a day, approximately 12 hours apart. Take 'RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML' only as per the prescription by your physician only. It is crucial to administer the drops consistently every day to experience the full therapeutic benefits. Invert the single-use vial a few times to ensure the solution is properly mixed before use. Open the vial carefully, avoiding contact with the tip to prevent contamination.

Benefits of RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML
- RESTASIS® (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) 0.05% is a prescription eye drop used to increase tear production in people whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye). It is not known if RESTASIS® is effective in patients already using anti-inflammatory eye drops.
- The primary benefit of RESTASIS® eye drops is to help manage chronic dry eye by addressing the underlying inflammation. Unlike artificial tears that provide temporary relief, RESTASIS® works to increase the eyes' natural ability to produce tears. This can lead to long-term improvement in dry eye symptoms.
- RESTASIS® helps to alleviate the uncomfortable symptoms of dry eye, such as burning, itching, stinging, and a gritty sensation. By increasing tear production, it lubricates the eyes, reducing irritation and improving overall comfort.
- By promoting natural tear production, RESTASIS® helps to maintain a healthier ocular surface. Tears are essential for nourishing and protecting the cornea, and adequate tear production can prevent damage and maintain clear vision.
- RESTASIS® is often prescribed as part of a comprehensive dry eye management plan. Regular use, as directed by your eye care professional, can help to break the cycle of inflammation and dryness, leading to sustained relief and improved quality of life.
- Clinical studies have shown that many patients experience a noticeable improvement in their dry eye symptoms after using RESTASIS® for several months. While individual results may vary, consistent use is crucial for realizing the full benefits of the medication.
- Increased tear production reduces dependency on artificial tears. By addressing the root cause of dry eye (inflammation), RESTASIS® can decrease the need for frequent artificial tear application, offering a more convenient and sustainable solution.
- RESTASIS® is a targeted treatment that addresses ocular inflammation, which is often a primary cause of dry eye. By reducing inflammation, the medication allows the tear glands to function more effectively, leading to increased tear production and improved eye health.
- Improved comfort and vision can lead to an improved quality of life. Chronic dry eye can interfere with daily activities, such as reading, working on a computer, and driving. By effectively managing dry eye symptoms, RESTASIS® can help patients regain their ability to perform these activities comfortably.
- RESTASIS® is supplied in single-use vials, which helps to ensure sterility and prevent contamination. This convenient packaging makes it easy to use the medication as prescribed, whether at home or on the go.
How to use RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML
- To use RESTASIS EYE DROPS 0.4 ML effectively, begin by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water to minimize the risk of contamination. Before each use, gently invert the single-use vial a few times to ensure the solution is properly mixed. Open the vial carefully, avoiding contact between the vial tip and any surface to prevent contamination.
- Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Gently squeeze one drop of RESTASIS into the pocket, being careful not to touch your eye or eyelid with the vial tip. If a drop misses your eye, try again.
- Close your eye gently for one to two minutes. Avoid blinking or squeezing your eyelids tightly, as this can force the medication out of your eye. Use a clean tissue to blot away any excess solution that may spill onto your face. It's crucial to use RESTASIS exactly as prescribed by your doctor, typically twice daily, about 12 hours apart.
- If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using RESTASIS and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. This is important because the medication can be absorbed by the lenses. Each vial of RESTASIS is for single use only and should be discarded after each application, even if there is solution remaining. Do not save opened vials for later use.
- Consistency is key to seeing results with RESTASIS. It may take several weeks or even months of regular use to experience the full benefits of the medication. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after several months, consult your doctor. Store RESTASIS at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
