Rexipra Plus Tablet is generally prescribed for the treatment of anxiety disorders, panic disorder, and depressive episodes associated with significant anxiety. It combines escitalopram, an SSRI antidepressant, with clonazepam, a benzodiazepine, to provide both long-term control of anxiety and mood symptoms and short-term relief from acute anxiety, tension, and panic attacks. The exact indication for an individual patient is determined by the treating psychiatrist or physician.
Rexipra Plus Tablet works through two active components. Escitalopram increases the availability of serotonin in the brain by selectively inhibiting its reuptake, which helps improve mood, reduce anxiety, and stabilize emotional symptoms over time. Clonazepam enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, leading to reduced neuronal excitability and a calming effect. Together, they help control both psychological and physical symptoms of anxiety and panic.
The calming effect of clonazepam may be noticed within hours to days of starting therapy, leading to early relief from severe anxiety or panic symptoms. However, the full antidepressant and anxiolytic effect of escitalopram usually develops gradually over 2 to 6 weeks, and in some patients even longer. It is important not to judge the effectiveness of the medicine too early and not to stop it on your own. Any concerns about lack of improvement should be discussed with the prescribing doctor.
Rexipra Plus Tablet should not be stopped abruptly without medical advice. Sudden discontinuation, especially of clonazepam, can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety rebound, irritability, insomnia, tremors, sweating, palpitations, and in severe cases seizures. Stopping escitalopram suddenly may cause dizziness, mood changes, flu-like symptoms, and sleep disturbances. Your doctor will usually recommend a gradual dose reduction over weeks to months to minimize withdrawal effects and reduce the risk of relapse.
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, slowed thinking or reaction time, impaired concentration, nausea, dry mouth, constipation or loose stools, increased sweating, decreased libido, and difficulty achieving orgasm. Some people may experience headache, weight changes, or sleep disturbances such as insomnia or excessive sleepiness. Many of these effects are mild and may lessen as the body adjusts, but persistent or troublesome symptoms should be reported to the treating clinician.
The clonazepam component of Rexipra Plus Tablet carries a risk of dependence, especially with prolonged use, higher doses, or use in individuals with a history of substance use disorder. Dependence means that the body adapts to the medicine and withdrawal symptoms may occur if it is stopped suddenly. For this reason, the medicine should be used only as prescribed, for the shortest duration necessary, and under regular medical supervision. Escitalopram itself is not considered addictive, but it can cause discontinuation symptoms if stopped abruptly.
Alcohol should generally be avoided while taking Rexipra Plus Tablet. Both alcohol and clonazepam depress the central nervous system, and their combined effect can lead to excessive drowsiness, impaired coordination, slowed breathing, and increased risk of accidents. Alcohol may also worsen anxiety, depression, and sleep quality, counteracting the therapeutic benefits of escitalopram. If you have consumed alcohol accidentally or in small amounts, inform your doctor, especially if you feel unusually sedated or unwell.
Use of Rexipra Plus Tablet during pregnancy requires careful individual risk–benefit assessment. Escitalopram has been associated with potential risks such as neonatal adaptation syndrome and, rarely, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn when used in late pregnancy. Benzodiazepines like clonazepam may cause neonatal sedation, respiratory depression, or withdrawal symptoms if used near delivery. Therefore, this medicine is generally avoided in pregnancy unless the potential benefit to the mother clearly outweighs the risks to the fetus, and it should only be used under specialist supervision.
Both escitalopram and clonazepam can pass into breast milk. Escitalopram is usually present in low to moderate amounts, while clonazepam may cause sedation, poor feeding, or breathing difficulties in the nursing infant, particularly with higher maternal doses or prolonged use. Because of these concerns, the decision to use Rexipra Plus Tablet while breastfeeding must be individualized. Your doctor may advise using an alternative treatment, adjusting the regimen, closely monitoring the infant for drowsiness and feeding problems, or, in some cases, avoiding breastfeeding.
Inform your doctor about any history of liver or kidney disease, glaucoma, respiratory problems, seizure disorders, bipolar disorder, suicidal thoughts, substance or alcohol misuse, or allergies to benzodiazepines or SSRIs before starting Rexipra Plus Tablet. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in high-risk tasks until you know how the medicine affects your alertness. Do not combine it with alcohol or other sedative medicines without medical advice. Attend regular follow-up appointments so that your response, side effects, and the ongoing need for clonazepam can be reviewed, and never adjust the dose or stop the medicine on your own.
