Most side effects are temporary and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine, typically not requiring medical attention. However, if they persist or cause concern, consult your doctor. RIPATEC EYE DROPS 5 ML may cause some side effects. The common side effects are mentioned below.

General Ophthalmic Use
Follow administration precautionsRipatec Eye Drops is intended for topical use in the eye only and must not be ingested or injected.
RIPATEC EYE DROPS 5 ML is a medication used to treat certain eye conditions.
Use RIPATEC EYE DROPS 5 ML as directed by your doctor.
Possible side effects of RIPATEC EYE DROPS 5 ML may include burning, stinging, or blurred vision.
Store RIPATEC EYE DROPS 5 ML at room temperature, away from heat and light.
While using RIPATEC EYE DROPS 5 ML, inform your doctor if you have any allergies and avoid driving or operating machinery if your vision is blurred.
Ripatec Eye Drops contains ripasudil, a Rho‑kinase inhibitor used to lower elevated intraocular pressure in conditions such as open‑angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. By improving aqueous humor outflow through the trabecular meshwork, it helps reduce pressure inside the eye and thereby lowers the risk of progressive optic nerve damage and visual field loss. It is prescribed and monitored by an ophthalmologist or eye care specialist.
Ripasudil, the active ingredient in Ripatec Eye Drops, inhibits Rho‑kinase enzymes in ocular tissues, particularly in the trabecular meshwork and Schlemm’s canal. This leads to relaxation and remodeling of the outflow pathway, enhancing the conventional drainage of aqueous humor from the anterior chamber. The increased outflow results in a reduction of intraocular pressure, which is a key modifiable risk factor in glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
Ripatec Eye Drops should be used exactly as prescribed by your ophthalmologist. The number of drops, the eye or eyes to be treated, and the frequency of instillation are individualized and should not be altered without medical advice. Before use, wash your hands, tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to form a small pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops without touching the eye or surrounding structures with the dropper tip. Close your eye gently and, if advised, apply light pressure to the inner corner of the eye for a short period to reduce systemic absorption. Do not use more or less than directed.
Ripatec Eye Drops is often used in combination with other antiglaucoma agents such as prostaglandin analogues, beta‑blockers, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, or alpha‑agonists when additional intraocular pressure reduction is needed. If you are using more than one type of eye drop, your doctor will advise on the order of instillation and the interval between products to minimize washout and ensure optimal effect. Do not start, stop, or change any glaucoma medication without consulting your ophthalmologist.
Common side effects include conjunctival hyperemia (redness of the white part of the eye), mild burning or stinging on instillation, transient blurred vision, and occasionally small subconjunctival hemorrhages. Some patients may experience eye discomfort, foreign‑body sensation, or mild eyelid changes. Less commonly, allergic reactions such as eyelid swelling, itching, or periocular rash may occur. Severe eye pain, marked vision changes, or signs of infection are uncommon but require immediate medical attention. If any side effect is persistent, bothersome, or worsening, contact your eye care professional promptly.
If you miss a scheduled dose, instill it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next planned dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not instill extra drops to make up for a missed dose, as this may increase the risk of local irritation without providing additional benefit. If you frequently forget doses, discuss strategies with your healthcare provider to improve adherence, as consistent use is important for intraocular pressure control.
Many ophthalmic solutions, especially those containing preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride, can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and may cause irritation or discoloration. In general, patients are advised to remove contact lenses before instilling medicated eye drops and to wait an appropriate period before reinserting them, as recommended by their eye care professional. Ask your ophthalmologist or optometrist whether your specific Ripatec formulation is compatible with your lenses and for precise instructions on lens removal and reinsertion timing.
Data on the use of ripasudil‑containing eye drops during pregnancy and breastfeeding are limited. Although systemic absorption after topical ocular use is expected to be low, potential risks to the fetus or nursing infant cannot be completely excluded. Use in pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should be based on a careful assessment of the expected benefit versus potential risk by the treating physician. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, inform your ophthalmologist so that the most appropriate treatment strategy can be selected and monitored.
Ripatec Eye Drops may cause transient blurred vision, eye discomfort, or visual fluctuations immediately after instillation. These effects are usually short‑lived but can temporarily impair visual clarity. It is advisable to avoid driving, cycling, or operating machinery until your vision has cleared and you feel comfortable and confident. If you experience persistent visual disturbances or recurrent episodes that interfere with daily activities, consult your ophthalmologist for further evaluation.
Ripatec Eye Drops should be stored according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically at controlled room temperature, protected from excessive heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye, to maintain sterility. Most ophthalmic solutions have a defined in‑use shelf life after opening, beyond which they should be discarded even if some solution remains, to reduce the risk of contamination and infection. Check the package insert or label for the specific discard date after opening, and consult your pharmacist or ophthalmologist if you are unsure.
Ripatec Eye Drops should be used with caution in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to ripasudil or any component of the formulation, as allergic reactions may occur. Patients with active ocular infections, significant ocular surface disease, recent eye surgery, or severe inflammatory eye conditions should be evaluated carefully before initiation. Those with complex medical histories, including cardiovascular, hepatic, or renal disease, should inform their ophthalmologist, although systemic exposure from topical use is expected to be low. Any history of severe drug allergies or previous adverse reactions to glaucoma medications should be discussed with the treating physician before starting therapy.
