• Rosuvastatin blocks HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme the liver uses to make cholesterol. The liver then takes more LDL ("bad") cholesterol out of the blood, which slows the build-up of fatty plaque in the arteries.
• Aspirin permanently blocks cyclo-oxygenase-1 in platelets, stopping them from making thromboxane A2, a chemical that makes platelets sticky. Clopidogrel is changed by the liver into an active form that permanently blocks the P2Y12 receptor on platelets. Using the two antiplatelet medicines together gives stronger protection against clots forming on narrowed arteries or stents. Because the effect on platelets is permanent, it lasts for the platelets' lifespan of about a week after stopping.

Bleeding is the main risk. Easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums and bleeding that takes longer to stop are common. • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule.
