Allergies and Hypersensitivity
Contraindicated in severe allergySafexim O should not be used in patients with a known severe allergy to cefixime, other cephalosporins, ofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or any component of the formulation.
When on treatment, be cautious and don't pointlessly open yourself to the sunrays. It can bring about burns from the sun and rashes. Guarantee even in the wake of halting the treatment, you are not exposed to a lot of sun for the following 48 hours.
You really want to follow through with the full course of medication, according to your Physician recommended span. You might feel fine after a couple of portions however it is vital to finish the course. If you stop it right on time, there might be chances of disease reoccuring or not answering this antimicrobial later on.
Safexim O is generally used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, some gastrointestinal infections like infectious diarrhea or typhoid fever, and other susceptible infections as determined by a doctor. Its exact indications can vary by country and brand, so you should follow your doctor’s prescription and the local product information.
Yes. Safexim O is a combination antibiotic that usually contains cefixime, a third‑generation cephalosporin, and ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone. Both components work together to kill or inhibit the growth of certain bacteria. It is not effective against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
Use of Safexim O during pregnancy should be based on a careful risk–benefit assessment by a doctor. Cefixime is generally considered to have limited human data but is not known to be a major teratogen, while fluoroquinolones like ofloxacin are usually avoided in pregnancy unless no safer alternative is suitable, because of concerns from animal studies about effects on developing cartilage. Do not start or continue Safexim O in pregnancy without explicit medical advice.
Both cefixime and ofloxacin can pass into breast milk in small amounts. Cephalosporins are usually considered relatively compatible with breastfeeding, but fluoroquinolones like ofloxacin are used with caution because of theoretical risks to the infant’s developing joints and gut flora. If you are breastfeeding, your doctor will weigh the benefits of treatment against potential risks and may choose an alternative antibiotic if appropriate. Do not breastfeed while taking Safexim O unless your doctor has approved it.
There is no well‑documented direct interaction between moderate alcohol intake and the active ingredients in Safexim O, but alcohol can worsen side effects such as dizziness, stomach upset, and dehydration. Alcohol may also impair your immune response and overall recovery. It is generally advisable to avoid or minimize alcohol consumption while taking this medicine and during recovery from infection.
Safexim O should be used cautiously in people with liver disease. Both cefixime and ofloxacin are primarily eliminated through the kidneys, but they can affect liver enzymes and, in rare cases, cause liver injury. Patients with pre‑existing liver impairment may be at higher risk of side effects and may need closer monitoring of liver function tests. Always inform your doctor about any history of hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver, or abnormal liver tests before starting Safexim O.
Cefixime and ofloxacin are largely excreted by the kidneys, so impaired kidney function can lead to higher blood levels and increased risk of side effects. In patients with moderate to severe kidney disease, doctors often adjust the dosing interval or choose an alternative antibiotic. If you have chronic kidney disease, are on dialysis, or have a history of kidney problems, you must inform your doctor before taking Safexim O so that appropriate dosing and monitoring can be arranged.
Safexim O can cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, visual disturbances, or seizures in some individuals, mainly due to the fluoroquinolone component ofloxacin. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should not drive, operate machinery, or perform tasks that require full alertness. Even if you feel well, it is wise to be cautious when you first start the medicine to see how it affects you.
If you have a history of severe allergy (such as anaphylaxis, severe rash, or breathing difficulty) to penicillins, cephalosporins, or fluoroquinolones, you must inform your doctor before taking Safexim O. Cefixime is a cephalosporin, and there can be cross‑reactivity in some patients allergic to penicillins. Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone and can cause serious allergic reactions in susceptible individuals. Your doctor will assess the type and severity of your previous reactions and may choose a different antibiotic if the risk is considered significant.
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, and mild skin rash. These are often temporary. However, you should seek urgent medical attention if you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction (such as swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or widespread rash), severe or persistent diarrhea with blood or mucus, tendon pain or swelling (especially in the Achilles tendon), sudden chest pain or palpitations, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, confusion, seizures, or severe weakness. These may indicate serious but less common adverse reactions that require prompt evaluation.
You should not stop taking Safexim O on your own, even if your symptoms improve after a few doses. Stopping treatment too early can allow some bacteria to survive, leading to relapse of the infection and contributing to antibiotic resistance. Always complete the full course exactly as prescribed by your doctor, unless you are advised to stop because of side effects or another medical reason.
