How SM FIBRO CAPSULE 20'S Works

• In oral submucous fibrosis, chewing areca nut, often with tobacco, triggers inflammation and oxidative stress in the lining of the mouth. This drives excess collagen, the tough protein that stiffens the tissue, so the mouth gradually becomes harder to open.
• Lycopene, beta-carotene, vitamin E and alpha-lipoic acid neutralise free radicals in the tissue. Zinc, copper and selenium are needed by the body's own antioxidant enzymes. Together they aim to reduce oxidative damage and the inflammation that feeds fibrosis.

Antioxidant and mineral supplements are usually well tolerated. Nausea, stomach upset, loose stools or a metallic taste can occur, particularly if taken on an empty stomach. Beta-carotene in larger amounts can turn the skin slightly yellow-orange, which is harmless and fades after stopping. Large trials found that beta-carotene supplements increased the risk of lung cancer in people who smoke. Anyone who smokes or chews tobacco should discuss this with the doctor. Long-term zinc intake above recommended levels can lower copper levels. Allergic reactions such as rash, itching or swelling mean the capsules should be stopped.

• If you miss a dose of SM Fibro Capsule, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

• Store the strip in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Indoco pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Stop areca nut, gutka, pan masala and tobacco completely
• Take the capsule after a meal
• Do the mouth-opening exercises the dentist advises
• Keep regular check-ups with the dentist or oral physician
• Report any new ulcer, lump or white or red patch in the mouth
• Tell the doctor about smoking before starting

• Taking SM Fibro after a meal helps absorption. Spicy food, hot food and drink, and alcohol can worsen burning in the mouth in oral submucous fibrosis. Tomatoes, carrots, leafy greens and nuts are dietary sources of the same antioxidants.
