How SOMPRAZ L CAPSULE 10'S Works

• Esomeprazole blocks the proton pump (H+/K+-ATPase) in the cells of the stomach lining, which is the final step in acid production. Less acid means less burning in the food pipe, and inflamed tissue can heal. The esomeprazole is in a delayed-release form that is absorbed after it leaves the stomach.
• Levosulpiride blocks dopamine D2 receptors in the nerve networks of the gut wall. This speeds up stomach emptying and reduces the bloating, fullness and belching that keep reflux going. The extended-release form spreads its effect over the day.

Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, wind and nausea are among the more common effects. Levosulpiride can cause movement side effects, including stiffness and slowness like Parkinson's disease, tremor, abnormal muscle spasms, restlessness and uncontrolled movements. Studies from Indian neurology centres have reported these, most often with longer use, and most patients improved after stopping. Any new tremor, stiffness or abnormal movement should be reported to the doctor straight away. Levosulpiride can raise prolactin, causing breast swelling, milk discharge or changes in periods. Rarely it affects heart rhythm. Long-term PPI use has been linked with bone fractures and low magnesium. Serious skin reactions, liver problems and a rare reaction called neuroleptic malignant syndrome, with high fever and stiff muscles, need emergency care.

• If you miss a dose of SOMPRAZ L CAPSULE 10'S, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

• Store the strip in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and follow the storage instruction printed on the current Sun Pharma pack. Keep it out of the reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date.

• Swallow the capsule whole, one hour before a meal
• Report any tremor, stiffness or abnormal movements straight away
• Do not take it during pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Tell the doctor about epilepsy, Parkinson's disease or heart rhythm problems
• Avoid alcohol, which adds to drowsiness
• See a doctor for trouble swallowing, black stools or weight loss

• It is taken before a meal. Large fatty meals, spicy food, coffee, carbonated drinks and alcohol can worsen reflux for many people. Alcohol also adds to levosulpiride's drowsiness.
